Weekend Trip to Pytingwyn Woods

What a gorgeous site - at one side a babbling brook, that you can hear as you fall asleep, to pairs of Red Kites and Buzzards wheeling overhead - and flocks of Goldfinches hopping about the grasses in the meadow and field. The weather was very good and I fell asleep watching bats and the moon rise, with the van door open all night. There's already stone fire pits, a compostable loo, and a lovely area where you can pitch up and enjoy the woods and the area, in peace and quiet. David is the owner and is lovely, so very helpful, which I appreciated loads. I can see why this little slice of heaven has been nominated for awards - and I'd suggest that people come and visit to try it out for themselves.

Girt DOWN FARM ..... Beautiful, relaxing and stunning surroundings of views of the coast. The sunset and sunrise were stunning. Stargazing is a must. Lovely to chat to Paul and Lesley whilst they are going about their daily farming. They have a wealth of knowledge of the area. Their fresh hens eggs were amazing. We had a lovely breakfast roll in the morning too. Showers, toilets and washing up area are lovely and clean. Fresh spring water out of the tap. There is an old railway carriage to chill, charge your phone and a fridge freezer. Firepits & Wood and you can also BBQ. This is such a lovely and friendly farm. A great place for families, couples or Trekkers. You can chill & unwind with a book, plenty of wildlife and birds. There are walks out of the farm, take a stroll up to Great Hangman or a carry on to Little Hangman which was about an hour. Again the views of the coasts are stunning at the top. You can carry on walking which takes you to Combe Martin beach, cafes, chippy, shops and a butchers. Or walk the other way to Heddons mouth which takes about 4 hours but so worth it..... beach, a pint and a lovely meal. Girt farm is surrounded by so much to do locally, local produce, quaint villages, Exmoor and walks galore. There are Buses from Combe Martin which go both ways up and down the coasts. I would highly recommended. AND We will be back for a longer stay next time. A REAL HIDDEN 💎 GEM. 🏕

Weekend Trip to Girt Down Camping

Gorgeous views of the coast and camping just as it should be - back to basics with acres of space but perfectly adequate and clean facilities. The coast path is just a few minutes away from the site and there are some incredible views to be had from Little Hangman. The Heddon Valley is close by too and definitely worth visiting. The coast path here is seriously hilly, but with views like this, it is well worth the effort.

Everything was perfect! Booking easy and Julian very helpful on the phone. Our pitch was on the edge of a beautiful wildflower meadow and we had the whole field to ourselves! Firepit provided. Hot showers and compost loos. Lovely sitting in the enclosed farm yard with tea and cake. Good walks from the site. We drove to the Tuckers Arms pub which was good. Burrow Farm gardens worth a visit. Highly recommend Goren Farm!

Lovely campsite very calm and relaxing. The care and love put into to the café, shop, play area was very special. For a couple of days we didn’t leave (kids played happily, nice walks, meeting cows). The birdsong in the mornings is heavenly.

Beautiful setting. If you want to get back to nature this is the place for you! We were a large family group celebrating three birthdays and it’s perfect to pitch up for campers and campervanners. The toliets are great and the shower was hot. My only feedback is to sort out the temperature of both showers so they run at a decent temp. One was cold and the other was too hot. And more bins on site so you can recycle more easily - food / non food. You’re encouraged to recycle at home as it’s a greenfield site. We’ll be back for sure!

Weekend Trip to Pytingwyn Woods

My 8 year old loves making dens and bases and has heard about wild camping that my wife and I used to do and wanted to do some himself. Since he isn’t quite up to a proper expedition at his age I went looking for a campsite where we could give him a taste of it and found this place. We camped in the woods within a few metres of the river. We cooked over fires and slept under a tarp shelter between trees, boiled water from the river and in his eyes lived in the wilderness for a couple of days. Just what we were after.

Lovely quiet little campsite, not very busy even in kids holidays. Gorgeous setting on the river. Car parking plentiful. Just the one pub and little shop, and no supermarkets within walking distance, so bring all your supplies with you. Toilets are very clean, showers are clean but very erratic haha

You can find us to the west of the Brecon Beacons or Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Llandyfan Campsite has been lovingly re-established in early 2024 by Andy and Jo. Since taking ownership, we have rolled up our sleeves and got stuck into restoring it to its former glory and will soon be back to being a fully operational slice of Welsh heaven. Our first focus has been the fishing lake which we opened in March. The campsite followed in May. We are currently working on electric hook ups and other improvements. We have chickens on site that roam free during the day. They are friendly and like to wander around the tents to say hello to our guests! We would like everyone who visits to have a great time and a relaxing break. Whilst here please be considerate towards others, to their property, and while using the facilities. If you have any concerns, please let us know. We have brought out a few rules from our T&Cs and we kindly ask that you have a read through before your stay. Litter: You must pick up your litter. Please either take it with you or recycle it appropriately in the bins onsite. There are bins around the campsite, please recycle where possible. Pitches to be left as you found them. Noise: Be respectful and consider your neighbours. Keep noise to a minimum after 10pm and before 8am in the morning. No loud music is to be played at any time. Children: Children must be supervised at all times around the campsite and can play within the pitch space allocated to you. At quiet times, it may be possible for children to use vacant pitches for play but this cannot be guaranteed. The amenity block and associated facilities are not to be used as a play area. Dogs: Must not to be left unattended. Are to be kept on leads at all times whilst on the campsite. There’s plenty of camping and glamping in Wells and the countryside that surrounds it – and it’s popular with good reason. On the edge of Somerset’s Mendip Hills, Wells is a city that’s the size of a village – only able to claim the status because of its 13th-century cathedral. It’s a lovely place to visit in a scenic spot that’s well within reach of Somerset’s other best-loved locations. And while Somerset’s historic cities, market towns and big attractions are a draw, it’s the great outdoors that’s the star of the show which is why camping and glamping are the best ways to stay here. Things to do in Wells

If you’re camping or glamping near Wells, a visit to the city that’s the size of a village is almost obligatory. The ornate 13th-century cathedral, which gives the place its city status, is open to visitors - as is the 14th-century Bishop’s Palace and Gardens, home of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. You can learn about the history of the area in the Wells and Mendips Museum in town too – before heading out to explore the Mendips themselves. The hills have been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one of several in the county, and it’s a great area to explore with steep slopes, spectacular gorges and ancient monuments.

Wells is just five miles from Glastonbury, the site of the legendary music festival at Worthy Farm, but also another place of spiritual significance with its abbey and iconic tower-topped tor. Wookey Hole and Wookey village are even closer and offer family friendly attractions along with the chance to go underground. Cheddar, with its famous gorge, caves and cheese, is also within the Mendips and well worth a visit. In fact, the Medips hides the largest underground network of caves in the whole of the UK so, for the more adventurous, Wells is a great place to camp or glamp. It’s within reach of some of the country’s best caving opportunities and for newbies there are plenty of outdoor pursuits companies willing to show you the ropes. Bath, Bristol and the coast can also be reached within an hour.
