Camping and glamping on a working farm, with yurts, huts with hot tubs, and simple, spacious, sociable camping pitches

For city dwelling campers especially, there are few things that bring the reality of camping home as much as taking a stroll through a dewy early morning field to use a shower block. Pausing to inhale the clear air, still scented with the smoky fragrance of last night’s campfire, while watching the mist rising off the rolling fields, even the most jaded urbanite can’t fail to be stirred.

Westland Farm is the perfect place for such epiphanies: a beautifully tranquil glamping and camping site that looks out over a small lake surrounded by rolling, sheep-dotted hills. There’s a variety of accommodation too, ranging from back-to-basic tent pitches in a lush, grassy field to a brilliant shepherd’s hut set in a quiet corner at the top of the farm. Close to the loos and showers, and nestled next to a babbling brook, the shepherd's hut comes complete with a five-foot double bed and small child bunk bed and airbed (if you need it) – perfect for a family of four. Then there’s the giant yurt that comfortably sleeps six and a hand-built, grass-roofed Drover’s Hut (sleeping a further six and boasting its very own hot-tub), with a kitchen that houses a wood-fired oven and gas hob, set in its own private corner next to the stream. You can even snag a B&B room in the farmhouse if the outdoor life is not for you.

A beautiful spot, and perfect for both a romantic getaway and a family escape from the urban jungle, Westland Farm has a little something for everyone. Basic camper? Home-from-home glamper? Just pick the spot that's right for you.

Shepherds Hut with hot tub
100% (7)
Shepherd's hut · Sleeps 5
Our handmade shepherd hut is ideal for an unforgettable break in the countryside for couples and small families alike.  There is ample room for two adults in a king size bed and a small bunk above for a child.   We supply all bedding, you only need to bring towels.  We are happy for larger families to squeeze in to the shepherd hut, you are welcome to bring an airbed to sleep an extra child.  The shepherd hut garden has plenty of room for a tent for older children, or perhaps a family camping and granny and grandpa sleeping in the shepherd hut.   Camping is charged at our camping rate and is bookable separately or you are welcome to contact us directly.  The kitchen area comes with a range of appliances: a standard size sink with running hot and cold water, gas hob, pretty china crockery, kitchen and cooking utensils. You can stay warm and toasty in front the wood burning stove. The views from the stable door and garden toward Wistlandpound Reservoir are truly breathtaking. We now have direct access to the reservoir and Exmoor national park via footpaths from the farm.  Outside the hut boasts its own fenced garden, private fire pit, seating and a lovely wood fired hot tub. Dogs are welcome.  We are a working farm with livestock in all the surrounding fields, we like to be sure that you understand that dogs need to be kept on a lead or under close control at all times.  Please select on the extras list if you're bringing a dog with you. We have a lovely toilet block a short walk from the shepherd hut.  It has roomy showers and toilets, is kept beautifully clean and toasty warm, with central heating which runs all year.  Also in the toilet block in an information desk, fridge freezer, honesty shop during school holidays and busy times and games to borrow and swap. We also have a drying wall to hang any soggy clothes or towels after a busy day out. Logs are available at £6 for a large net, payable on site.

The Drovers Hut and hot tub
100% (5)
Shepherd's hut · Sleeps 5
The drovers hut started life as a WW2 army animations trailer, it was bought by a farmer to convert to a bale trailer, and was found by Andy in an overgrown hedge. We have made a beautiful hut on the restored chassis. We set the drovers hut overlooking the farmland, with Wistlandpound reservoir in the near distance. A lovely, cosy, romantic hut, set in a secluded corner.  For couples or families.  With a wood-fired hot tub and a private bathroom with hot shower and flushing loo. The Drovers Hut has sleeping for5-6, including a king-size bed, single bunks and a trestle bed that pulls out from under the main king-size bed.  There is also room to pitch a tent below the decking for extra friends and family or older children. Children are welcome to visit the farm animals (supervised) and collect eggs from the hens.  The lovely drovers hut has a gorgeous country kitchen with Belfast sink, solid oak worktop, dresser top, two-burner gas hob, a table and benches and a wonderful wood-burning range stove with oven and hobs above.  Lighting is powered by solar panels and candles for added ambiance.  The kitchen is equipped with pots and pans, utensils, crockery and cutlery. All the beds have comfy memory foam mattresses, plump pillows and are made up with quality linen. Below the decking is a wood-fired hot tub. The drovers hut is fitted out beautifully, in a lovely peaceful corner of the field, has a decking area that with two gates to secure it for dogs or children, outdoor seating, table, fire pit, and bbq.  The hot tub is accessed by a gate off the decking. We now have direct access to Wistlandpound reservoir and Exmoor national park via footpaths leading from the farm.  We have just two other glamping lets, all of which are secluded in tucked-away corners of the fields around the farm.  If you have a larger party there is the option of the yurt which shares a corner in the same field.  A short walk away, at the top of the field, past the chickens from whom you are welcome to collect fresh eggs for your breakfast,  are more toilets,  lovely new modern showers with plenty of hot water and heating from our biomass boiler which is on all year round.  You will have shared use of the fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble drier and electric points for charging phones or using your hair drier or straighteners. As well as a drying wall to dry your clothes and towels if you get a bit soggy. Lambing takes place on the farm from the 1st April each year.  Guests are welcome in the lambing shed to feed lambs and see them being born. We are happy for budding farmers, young or old  to lend a helping hand.

We are on the edge of Exmoor National Park and close to some truly spectacular beaches, ancient market towns and country pubs, Westland Farm is a little piece of heaven we wish to share with you. We are a small friendly site, and wish to keep it that way always. We allow plenty of space for camping and all 3 of our glamping lets have plenty of space and privacy, there are no crowded fields even at the busiest times and some beautiful views of the countryside. We welcome families who we love to show our animals to, explain how they are kept and welcome help with feeding time. We encourage all children to collect their own fresh eggs for breakfast from our friendly hens. During the lambing season, which we plan around the Easter Holidays each year, guests are welcome in the lambing shed to watch and even help if they wish, there are often tame lambs to bottle feed and the more hands on types have even helped to bring new lambs into the world. There are several young people, who first came to stay with their families, who now have an ambition to become farmers themselves, due to having helped in the lambing shed during their holiday here.
