Quirky cabins with hot tubs in woods between Stratford and Worcester

Tuck yourself away in a cabin in the woods with a stay at Three Mile Hideaway. Out here in the countryside, midway between Stratford and Worcester, life takes on a slower pace. These handcrafted hideaways are off grid giving you the chance to switch off your phone and recharge your own batteries by immersing yourself in the great outdoors. A campfire area, wood-fired hot tub and the surrounding trees all help you do that.

Choose between Three Mile Hideaway itself, a converted vintage horse trailer sleeping two, and Appletree Lodge, custom-built for up to four. Each has its own space in the six-acre woods belonging to host Kirsty and her husband. While Appletree Lodge is the natural choice for families (with a sofa bed as well as a double), it’s also the one for couples who like a little more indoors with the out. While you have to step outside both cabins for your private compost loo and hot-water shower, Appletree Lodge offers a bit more undercover. It has a camping stove set up in the cabin and a log burner to warm the place.

Over at the Three Mile Hideaway horse trailer, the indoor space is cosier and, some might say, cuter too. It may be compact but everything is still provided – including the kitchen sink. It’s just that most of it is provided outdoors. And that’s what this place is really all about. You get towels, toilet roll, tea and coffee all included – but you also get the trees. It’s a natural environment with rustic charm alongside its little luxuries and, we think, more magic for it.

This dog-friendly site is named for a three-mile walk which starts at the edge of the woods and circumnavigates nearby Inkberrow. The village is thought to be the model for Ambridge in Radio 4’s long-running soap, The Archers. With that in mind, it’d be rude not to pop into The Old Bull, one of two pubs here. Shakespeare is also said to have visited this 16th-century inn – and, should you wish to explore further, there’s plenty more of his story in Stratford, 12 miles down the road.

Accessed from a private track you will find this beautiful hideaway located in a gorgeous private, untouched woodland right in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside. It is set next to an idyllic footpath route called ‘the three mile’ which is how the hideaway gained its name. It’s a vintage horse trailer which has been converted into a luxury glamping pod featuring an eco off grid shower pod, eco toilet pod and it’s very own luxurious eco wood burning hot tub where you can sit back and relax watching the stars while enjoying the colourful lights and water bubbles. It has a fire pit and outdoor kitchen to cook dinner or eat s’mores!

Nearby attractions

Three Mile Hideaway is on a route along public footpaths known by locals as the Three Mile Walk. Head out on the footpath past the woods and navigate your way through countryside and country lanes to the village of Inkberrow – or around it. There are also several good walks starting from the village. The location is midway between Worcester, with its cathedral and setting on the River Severn, and Stratford (both about 12 miles) where there’s more to draw visitors in. You can visit Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, a couple of miles from the centre of town, Shakespeare’s birthplace and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre – if that takes your fancy. The Cotswolds are a 35-minute drive.

Food and drink

You can pre-order a hamper of locally-produced goodies (bacon, eggs, milk and bread) from host Kirsty before your stay – and tea and coffee-making facilities are provided. For further supplies, there is a shop in the village (Inkberrow), less than a mile away. There, you’ll also find two pubs: The Bull’s Head and The Old Bull Inn, both serve food and there are takeaway pizzas available from The Old Bull Inn on selected dates with fish and chips from The Bull’s Head too.
