Set in the rugged Mojave Desert, the campground is surrounded by dramatic sandstone peaks, steep canyons, and unique desert vegetation — making it a haven for rock climbers, hikers, and nature lovers seeking a base away from the city. Activities abound, including miles of hiking and biking trails, world-renowned climbing opportunities, horseback riding, and more, with interpretive programs regularly offered at the nearby Visitor Center.
The campground offers a variety of site types: standard vehicle sites, walk-in tent sites, group sites, and several RV-only sites. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and firepit, with some offering shaded areas. Drinking water is available throughout the campground, and accessible vault toilets serve all loops. Several campsites and all restroom facilities are wheelchair accessible.
Facilities are basic; there are no utility hookups, showers, dump stations, or camp store. Campers must pack in their own supplies, including firewood, as none is available for purchase on site. Trash cans and drinking water are provided, and pets are allowed if kept leashed. The campground is generally open from September to late May, closing during the hot summer months.
Nearby attractions include the Red Rock Scenic Drive, multiple Nevada and federal recreation areas, and the extensive hiking and climbing resources of Red Rock Canyon. Reservations are strongly recommended as the campground can fill quickly during peak periods.
