Camp Shiloh

2 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents3 acres · Oak Hill, FL
Shiloh was the name of an early Florida town that was once located just down the road from our property. It was populated by hardy, adventurous folks who made a way for themselves and their families by clearing a spot along the lagoon, building a home and forging a life in a new location. But Shiloh is now lost, literally removed from the maps. It no longer exists. When NASA needed a perimeter zone for the newly emerging space program in the 1950s, the federal government purchased large swaths of land between Oak Hill and Titusville, FL. Residents were bought out and forced to move. Houses were relocated or demolished. Shiloh disappeared into history while the space-age pushed forward into the future. However... some foundations still can be found in the woods not far away, if you know where to look. There are even cemeteries that remain, whispering the names of individuals and families. As a tribute to those early adventurers, we have named our place Camp Shiloh. We honor the past, we respect the wild Florida that surrounds us, and we celebrate the future as we watch rocket launches from our porch. You are welcome to stay on the property while you explore the local communities of New Smyrna and Titusville, relax at beautiful Canaveral National Seashore, attend races in Daytona, visit amusement parks in Orlando... or whatever! It’s up to you. We are a peaceful, safe location from which you can stage your Florida adventure. Come on by. We look forward to hosting you! Learn more about this land: Park your van/small RV or pitch your tent on our rural homestead conveniently located 1000 ft off of US Hwy 1. Nearest I-95 exit is 3 miles away. Watch rocket launches, visit nearby beaches, attend NASCAR races, see local communities, relax at Canaveral National Seashore, birdwatch at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, fish Mosquito Lagoon, or visit the amusement parks of Orlando, we are a safe and quiet location from which to stage your adventures. We have two campsites. Site 1 is a nice level, grassy campsite for tent or RV, complete with a fire ring, picnic table, and firewood. Site 2 is the Glamping Greenhouse! We aren't fancy, but are clean, secure, and private. You can come and go as you please, and day-trip all over beautiful central Florida!

North Shore Relic Ranch tee pee

1 site · RV, Tent80 acres · Mount Dora, FL
The property is definitely different then most. The site itself is super spacious, and has great tree coverage from some ancient oaks. the site can hold up to an extra 5 tents if neened. There is solar power to the tee pee with a 750w solar inverter connected to two deep cycle batteries. Now to get to the site you have to go through the main busy part of the property (we literally have planes, trains and automobiles and more). But once you get to the site you feel the nature. Also right next to the property about 100 yd from where the property starts there is an entrance to a boat ramp (which has a 2 mi canal that goes to lake Apopka where you can launch a canoe or kayak, or do some fishing), also a 2.6 mi nature trail, and about 100 yd as well there is a 25 mile trail that you can bike, walk or horseback ride. That trail is a part of the Apopka wildlife drive which also starts not far from the property. It's a free nature drive on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays plus holidays. We are around 15 to 20 minutes from a few different springs such as wekiva springs, wekiva Island, Rock springs and Kings landing. We are about 45 minutes from SeaWorld, aquatica, volcano Bay, universal studios and more.

Camping near Sanford guide

Overview

Halfway between the waves of Daytona Beach to the north and Orlando’s theme parks to the south, Sanford is decidedly quieter and more laid back by comparison. Escape into nature through a network of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, or travel alongside lush riverbanks at Blue Spring State Park to spot Florida’s iconic manatees. Snorkeling and scuba diving in the warm Florida waters are more great ways to spend a day, as is renting a canoe or kayak to paddle among crystal-clear emerald springs at Wekiwa Springs State Park. Group primitive campsites, RV camping with full hookups, and stylish glamping sites are all available near Sanford.

Where to go

Wekiwa Springs State Park

Take time to explore over 40 miles of nature trails in Wekiwa Springs State Park by hiking, biking, or even horseback riding among the oak trees and spotting wildlife along the banks of Rock Springs Run and the Wekiwa River. Look for everything from belted kingfishers and ospreys to river otters and aquatic turtles. Swimming, canoeing, and kayaking the emerald springs are other popular activities. To really get away from it all, consider setting up at a primitive campsite in one of the more remote areas.

Blue Spring State Park

Over 700 West Indian manatees flood Blue Spring State Park every winter thanks to ongoing protection efforts. Here, limestone aquifers bubble up to feed the St. Johns River and create a warm and comfortable environment for the grazing sea cows. Observe the creatures in their natural habitat from boardwalks and observation decks, then dive into the water for summer snorkeling, scuba diving, and inner tubing. Hipcampers can select from a full range of camping options including primitive tent campsites, cabins, and RV sites with full hookups, plus amenities like fire rings and picnic tables.

Lake Monroe Park

Campers don’t need to go far from Sanford to discover a little slice of nature’s sanctuary. Set on the shores of the lake for which it is named, Lake Monroe Park is both right in the heart of town and miles away from the everyday. With both tent and RV camping options, there’s easy access to miles of biking trails, including the scenic Sanford RiverWalk running along the lakeshore. The lake itself offers attractive largemouth bass fishing year-round, as well as the chance to catch black crappies, bluegill, and massive channel catfish. If the fish elude your lure, historic Sanford’s local restaurants are mere minutes away.

When to go

Florida summers can be very hot and humid, not to mention that it’s also hurricane season. The mosquitoes can be a nuisance, as well. The rest of the year may be a more comfortable choice for camping near Sanford. Spring weather is especially pleasant, adorning park areas with wildflower displays. For manatee viewing, high season runs from November to April, peaking between December and February. Check with local parks and campgrounds for seasonal closures or reduced hours, as water activities may be restricted during manatee season.
