Welcome to the Wild West Coast! Where the mountains meet the sea. The campground land is remotely located on private property and perfectly located for excursions to the Pacific Ocean, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River National Recreation Area, and the Pacific Coast Ranges and mountain lakes such as the Devil's Punchbowl, Buck Lake, and Raspberry Lake. Relax and free you mind while camping on 120+ acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. You are not alone on the mountain as other people live here in the wild. You only have access to the campground and a nearby pond. The road to get there is two and a half miles up the mountain, the first mile is paved and the other mile and a half is gravel. The road is maintained by the county and used daily by others that live and work here. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, mushrooming, berry-picking, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. French Hill Trail is a few more miles up the mountain road. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water. An outdoor, COLD-water Artesian shower, out in the open mountain air with the wild things and an outhouse with a compost toilet are also provided. Bundles of firewood are available for an extra charge when you book your campsite. The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat ONLY, so water activities are NOT allowed. NO swimming, NO fishing, NO boating, NO trapping, etc. The wild things live here! The property owner has a dog, three cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. They do make noise! Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

You will appreciate the open space we offer along with less crowded campsites. Our campsites cater to adult travelers without children.  You will be provided a picnic table, water, and a fire ring. Campers will have access to a communal composting toilet and a COLD water artesian shower by the pond. The terrain in the campsites is rocky dirt with pine needles and other forest floor vegetation. We have removed the poison oak from the campsites themselves, but you should know what it looks like and avoid it when exploring the surrounding brush and woods throughout northern California. The area has been the host to mining and timbering over the past couple of centuries. The Endor scenes in "Return of the Jedi" were filmed in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Our campsites are ideal for the adult camper that prefers to be in a less crowded campsite than your usually packed state parks.  Our campsites cater to adult travelers without children.  You will be provided a picnic table, water, and a fire ring. Campers will have access to a communal composting toilet and a COLD water artesian shower by the pond. The terrain in the campsites is rocky dirt with pine needles and other forest floor vegetation. We loved the two nights we stayed at Free Your Mind camp site. We also had a wonderful time exploring the nearby Redwood Forest and Crescent City. If your looking for a quiet spot to camp away from the hustle and bustle of the 101 but still close to redwoods - this is the place for you.

Gorgeous camp site on Kirk's private property. Kirk was welcoming and very accommodating of our after-booking requests, and quick to get back to us with information. Thanks for the great time, Kirk! The camp site is up a quite steep dirt road that takes about 15 minutes to reach camp. We pulled a small teardrop travel trailer (33' with our truck) and we're able to fit it into the site. Getting turned around to leave was tough though! Wouldn't recommend anything much larger than this. If you visit, we highly recommend checking out Grove of the Titans and the Boyscout Trail in Jedediah Smith park.

Super small space, and the way things are arranged, you would be right next to other campers. There was only one other guest the night i stayed, but if it had had guests for the other two spaces, it would've been cramped. I also think it's overpriced for a spot with no hookups. Very nice area though.

This is a completely off-grid campsite that could hold up to four separate campsites which would feel a bit too crowded. We were completely lucky and had the place to ourselves all but one night. Water was provided by water bladders that were kept at the table. There's a wonderful meadow behind the campsites that allowed for an unobstructed gorgeous view of the skies. We spent many a very late night looking at the beautiful sky. The host was great Wood was reasonably priced was there to check in morning and evening but did not overstay. The host suggestions for stopping into the cafe we're spot on. Fantastic all the way around! .

Beautiful night sky. Was able to accommodate the same day. Met the host in person and was kind enough to offer some dried pine ones to help with fire. 3 women visiting from Florida, felt safe in the campground. The bagged toilet set up was quite the adventure but cleaner than many public restrooms we’ve encountered.

We chose this Hipcamp because we were looking for what was described. It is secure, private, and in a wooded area. Not all folks would appreciate the 2 plus mile drive up to the top of the hill, but that was fine for us. We did see a bear the first night so this is definitely not a glamorous camping spot. We felt welcomed by the host’s gift of water and drinks; we were out when he stopped by on our second day of camping. The bathroom set up was great! As well as a safe way to have a campfire.

Wonderful Camp Experience!

I loved this off the beaten path campground! Close enough to everything we wanted to explore in the Redwoods, but far enough away from street noise and crouds that we could relax and unwind peacefully. The campground feels communal and intimate with only 4 sites. Our neighbors were respectful of the property and i enjoyed getting a chance to chat with some of them. Our particular campsite was clean, spacious, and offered privacy if needed. I appreciated my conversations with Kirk and his helpful recommendations for our daily outings. His property is just beautiful and I look forward to a time I can return. A couple recommendations for future campers: -Read campground and campsite descriptions carefully. Everything he has to offer is in there - from the simple compost toilet to the outdoor cold shower (which I loved), to the 2.5ish mile drive up the hill on a curvy road. The initial drive to the campsite felt a lot longer than subsequent trips back and forth. - The mosquitoes can and will be a nuisance at times throughout the day. Although I am not a fan of bug sprays with DEET in them, I found it was necessary to purchase on our second day. That, along with a citronella candle worked well. - As a habitual early riser, I loved my morning greeting from the peafowls and roosters that reside just up the hill from the campground on Kirk's property. His birds let you know they're there, but I didn't find it incessant nor incessantly annoying.

Located in a beautiful area. The road up is a bit bumpy, but my little car made it just fine. It’s a cozy camping spot, with not much privacy from other campers, so keep that in mind. Kirk was a lovely host- very friendly and attentive. The camping spots were clean, easy to access, and it was nice to have a toilet, shower, potable water, and a fire pit available. I would definitely recommend to others!

I loved being there. The camp sites are slightly exposed to one another and close so strangely not so private. Woozle was a great spot. Kirk was accommodating of our second vehicle and he and his partner are really nice to chat with. The pond is lovely and the whole place is super close to the most incredible river access. Fabulous stop over. It would be an excellent place to book at least two of the sites with a group or folks you know.

The land was private & well maintained. The campsites were close together but gave us a chance to get to know our neighbors which we enjoyed- and we still felt like we had our privacy in the Woozle campsite. The host was very friendly & approachable, we talked with him for a while. Would recommend a stay here & we look forward to returning again!

The host was for communicative and left Springwater at the side. Unfortunately, this site is very thin with bushes on each side. I have a Honda element and was unable open the doors. additionally a lot of mosquitoes. I ended up driving 40 miles towards grants Pass to find another campground.

Very remote location, requires driving on gravel roads up a hill. It definitely feels you are going to a jungle. Host had provided a large water jar for drinking, this was super nice. There was also a bucket of water near firepit. this was safe and thoughtful. We could see stars at night because it's so far away from settlement. The camping spots are not very isolated from each other. Our spot was narrow so it felt a bit strange. The lock is manual at the main entrance and has a tendency to get stuck, this was a bit annoying. The bathroom requires packing out single use plastic in the trash can outside, this was weird. Lots of mosquitoes because it's a true jungle. I would definitely camp here again for the rustic and wild experience.

The campsite was beautiful and very quiet, BUT be aware that it is about 2 miles down a dirt road, aside from that 100% will be returning it was very peaceful!
