After five nights at Tater’s we can absolutely say we found our new favorite Colorado camping spot.
Hosts 5/5
Traci was communicative and helpful, without being intrusive
Facilities 5/5
The sites are level, covered in wood chips, and far enough apart for reasonable privacy. The double bathhouse with showers is next-level nice for a campground facility
Cleanliness 5/5
The bathhouse, so clean – seriously, really nice
Views/Vibe 5/5
Overlooking the valley/reservoir at sunset is special: golden hour with the fall colors (mid-September), the mountains, Needle Rock, the cows lowing in the distance – again, really nice. The sites are terraced so each has a good view.
Access 5/5
For the canyon, it’s just a half hour to the north rim. For town access it’s a quick drive to Crawford for drinks at the Hitching Post, a reasonable drive to Hotchkiss for a range of restaurants and groceries, or to Paonia for the wineries.
We look forward to coming back next year!
