Camp Colton provides a gorgeous glamping experience close to Portland. When you need relaxing and ease more than remote and rugged, this is the place.
Big trees, moss, ferns, scenic creeks, with beautiful metal sculptures sprinkled through, we enjoyed exploring the land. We walked each of the wild trails multiple times, delighting in the small waterfalls, quirky bridges, and wild flowers. Our two small dogs loved it.
The premium fire pit kept us at the campsite cooking and enjoying each other’s company at night. The yurt was comfortable, especially the bed, surrounded by greenery and a bird symphony in the morning.
We had so much privacy while being close to the bathhouse which featured hot, private showers, multiple toilets, drinking water, and laundry.
It was easy to leave and explore other parks in the area and pick up anything we forgot.

Camp Colton Tent Sites
We enjoyed our weekend at Camp Colton in their Fern tent site area. The setting is beautiful with the creek flowing nearby. The property provided lots of area to explore & hike. The bathhouse was a nice amenity to have as was the gazebo with fire pit. We definitely plan on visiting again!

Neil rules, he’s the best and his work is incredible. If you get a chance to walk around the property you should pay attention to the sculptures, many of them he did.

The whole campground is incredibly beautiful. We stayed in a yurt, the beds and bedding were way above and beyond expectations. All of the mattresses including the bunkbed mattresses were magnificently comfortable.
So, the yurt had a wood stove, but when we tried it a couple of times it filled the yurt with smoke even when we only left the door open long enough to get it going. I don’t know what’s going on with it, but we decided it was completely unusable. There was some kind of plug-in heater that didn’t put out enough heat to accomplish much. The yurt has practically zero insulation so it was drafty and cold especially near the walls. The second day I went and bought a heating pad thinking that would do the trick. It was an even colder night. I went outside at 2AM and could see my breath. I ended up taking a space heater from the bathroom and that made it reasonably comfortable for the rest of the night. I wished I’d brought a couple of space heaters and electric blankets. BTW this was in mid-June….so..?
We brought our 4-year-old twins along, and they loved it! My only complaint is that there is Foxglove everywhere. This plant is literally toxic. It’s fine it’s left alone, but it made me nervous with the kids running around. If you visit, please just be aware.
On a final note, the staff was wonderful—specifically Neal. He was very friendly and happy to help. The place is up-scale and all of the campers were quiet and respectful. It was much better than a state park!

From first contact to last, Allison, Neal, Lawrence, and the whole Camp Colton team made us feel welcomed and cared for. It's a beautiful campus with excellent facilities. Perfect way to keep dry in the wet Oregon spring when tent camping just ain't the vibe.

Blue Heron Queen | Room #6
We loved our stay at the Blue Heron cabin. The space was clean and warm. It was a great winter camping trip and the grounds are gorgeous. Would definitely stay again!

This location is fantastic! I can’t say enough about how magical and powerful the land is, and the people who tend this place are really wonderful. There was another room available around the corner from the room I booked that they offered for me to switch to with French doors, looking out at the trees and covered outdoor area. The room was very sweet and rustic, with modern touches. My only complaint is the mildew smell from the old building. Though it was lovely in every other way, I would not stay in this building again, I would book a room or cabin in a newer building elsewhere on the property due to that issue.

What a wondrous place camp Camp Colton is. Birds, creeks, and stunning tall trees, gorgeous! We loved it all.
The yurt was cozy and clean - absolutely perfect.

I can’t say enough about Camp Colton!! Going on my third year, this place has been the campsite where we kick off our camping season every year. It’s so serene and relaxing. Stacey is one of the most amazing Hipcamp hosts I have ever experienced, and Neal on-site was incredibly helpful and available if we needed anything. They truly go above and beyond! The landscape is incredible, and we loved walking around with our dog and cat, especially to the creek! We were very fortunate to find such a place, and I promise you, you will not regret it.

We're from Oklahoma and had the opportunity to RV camp on they're gorgeous land! We accidentally chose tent camping not realizing that you can't park your vehicle next to your camping spot. So they were kind enough to accommodate us to an rv spot. Neal, they're after hours ground keeper was very helpful and understanding! Would definitely stay again!

The entire camp is a Pacific Northwest Forrest wonderland that combines art and nature, and has all the creature comforts. We were in awe of the immaculately maintained forest with trails and bridges all over, but even more so at how Neal has intertwined his metalwork throughout the place in both functional architectural and art. He was very welcoming and met us at the gate and showed us to our site. Other than that though, we didn’t see another person in the very large campgrounds until we chatted with Neal on our way out. There are two RV sites together that are next to TWO amazing waterfalls. Our campsite was completely private as no one else had rented the other RV site. There are multiple fire pits scattered around Camp Colton, including a covered one that highlights some of Neal’s metalwork. That’s in addition to the large fire ring at the campsite. There are two sets of bathrooms for campers that are both clean and welcoming, and a gender neutral bathhouse with hot showers within private individual bathrooms. There are also cabins throughout the property, some which you can rent on HipCamp, and others that they’re fixing up. Several of the cabins are on the pond. There’s a large chapel and large lodge in the middle where they host weddings and other events posted on their website (several which we plan to come back for). They also produce maple syrup for the trees on their land! I can’t say enough great things about this place. 5-star HipCamp for sure!

We got the tent site closest to the creek. It was perfect for just a quick night out of town. Bathrooms were very nice, enjoyed just wondering around the property. Would definitely return.

Absolutely beautiful and SO much to do and explore 🤠 The yurt was so nice, very warm and the twin bunk beds were honestly such nice beds. Bathroom was literally 1 minute walk away and really nice, tbh nicer than the bathrooms in our house. They have like organic tampons there for you? Like what the heck 😅
The whole camp had so much to do, our two dogs had the time of their lives, jumped in the pond, swam in the creek, found big sticks, romped around.

We’re pretty sure that fairies & elves inhabit this magical place. Everywhere you walk, there’s an incredible piece of original metal art, a creek, a waterfall, a bridge, a bench, a meadow, etc. We absolutely fell in love with Camp Colton.
Other than one other couple, we had the place to ourselves. Which we loved. The RV sites are definitely the least sexy sites of this place, as there is significant road noise. However, we would go back again. We loved having a campfire, the bathhouse was divine, and we could not have had a better experience in this hidden gem. We appreciated that wood for campfires is included.
We definitely want to come back when the sugar shack is in full production. My favorite part was looking at the poetry on the wall. Any place that displays Mary Oliver poetry is my kind of place.
It’s tempting, not to leave a good review so that we can keep this place secret, but all the work that the team has put into refurbishing this camp and artist’s/poet’s/nature lover’s dream, deserves to be recognized.
We can see why people get married here. We can also see why people return again and again.

This was the perfect little getaway for our small family (+ dog). The yurt is cozy and nicely decorated and outfitted. Bedding, towels, an electric space-heater and wood-burning stove/heater, and outlets for your devices (but you'll want to turn them off and focus on the natural beauty). We loved hearing the nearby creek and the happy frogs as we drifted off to sleep in comfort. The kids enjoyed other amenities on the property: a large tree swing, horseshoes, lawn bowling, and the network of trails. Our camp host met us at the property entrance and showed us to the campsite and around the yurt. Firewood and kindling were ready to go, and we enjoyed roasting s'mores in the fire pit outside the yurt. The neighboring bathhouse was clean and spacious.

"Puffball" Cozy Forest Yurt

We had an amazing time at Camp Colton! We came to the spring equinox dinner and stayed in a yurt for our first time away from our baby girl! It was so restful and beautiful. The natural environment is stunning and the care that the Camp Colton team takes of this land and each other is deeply felt. The waters that run through the place are stunning and we could hear the water from our bed which made for such deep sleep! We loved it here and are looking forward to coming back with our wider family and solo.

"Chanterelle" Cozy Forest Yurt
Quick weekend stay for a kids’ bday and it was perfect. We will come back for sure. Lots of beautiful forest trails and river views. The yurt was clean and cozy and the bathrooms were really clean too. It was nice that fire wood was provided :)
