Property description Our property is nestled between Hwy 385, the Mickelson Trail, and the National Forest. We are located between Custer State Park and Wind Cave National Park along Hwy 385 and the Mickelson Trail; about 30 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain. The nearest towns with restaurants are Pringle, (2 miles S); Hot Springs, (24 miles S), Custer, (9.5 miles N).; Hill City, (24 miles N), and Rapid City, (50 miles N). The blacktop driveway grants easy access for every type of vehicle. A couple of ponds, creeks, and dispersed willow, pine, and aspen trees enhance the diversity and beauty of the landscape. It is peaceful here and we enjoy sharing it with our guests during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Plenty Star Ranch Retreat has our home, a big pole barn (RV storage), a garage/wood workshop with an attached restroom for all guests, a regular hot water shower cabin, a solar shower building, 2 small home-built camping log cabins, 7 RV sites, 9 clearly marked tent and car-camping sites, and several water hydrants fed by our well, providing great quality drinking water. 2 pets maximum per campsite, no pets allowed when booking a cabin. Check-In is 2 pm to 9 pm; Check-Out is 10 am for the cabins and 11 am for all other sites.

The grass area between the partial RV sites and the 2 log cabins is reserved for our 8 clearly marked tent sites. You may pitch your tent(s) or car tent and park your car at your booked site No 1. The area is interspersed with pine and leaf trees and is suitable for driving on with cars or trucks. Some sites (No. 2, 5, 6, and 7) have pine trees perfectly spaced for your hammocks. There are a couple of approved campfire pits with a grate, which are shared by all our camping guests. The restroom for all campers is attached to our garage/workshop, which has a toilet and warm water sink. Our heated shower cabin with a warm water shower and sink is located next to the garage. Red Cloud Camp Tent Site

Chief Red Cloud of the Ogallala Sioux tribe and his band were known to camp exactly at and around our ranch. We know because we talked to their family members and found multiple arrowheads at this location. The Red Cloud Campsite is a uniquely situated TENT site. Bring your tent(s) and sleep comfortably and secluded from the rest of the campground on this flat grassy site, high above the valley with an incredible view. This site is right at the edge of the National Forest, so watch the deer and other wildlife travel by in the early mornings and enjoy the beauty of an early sunrise. The Lakota-style tipi at this site is now for looks only, as it is not weather-proof, and not suitable for sleeping in any longer. If your tent is small enough, you may pitch it inside the tipi. You would not be the first... This site has its approved campfire pit, a picnic table, and cozy camping chairs. Off-the-ground grills are allowed, but no other fires close to the ground. The restroom for all campers is attached to our garage with a toilet and warm water sink about 20 yards from this tent site, A new shower cabin with a warm water shower and sink is now year-round operational, and right next to the restroom. All hydrants and faucets are connected to our well, providing great drinking water (tested regularly). There are dusk-to-dawn lights mounted at every building, and parking space for more than one vehicle available right at the site. Our fast guest WiFi reaches throughout the campground and you can charge your devices on the electric outlets all around our home's porch. If you are bringing pets, (maximum of 2) please keep them on a leash at all times and do not leave them behind unattended. We keep our peaceful place clean, as well as smoke and drug-free and we hope you respect and appreciate this as much as we do.

Plenty Star - Log Cabin - No 2 of 2

Great place to overnight while riding the trail since it is right on it. Cabins are awesome... Jack cut the trees on his land one year, hauled them down to the ranch, hand stripped the logs the next year and then built them the following! And most of the furniture as well! Isa and Jack are very personable and welcoming making them great hosts. I will be coming back soon to camp!

Great Hipcamp in the Black Hills

Plenty Star - Partial RV Site No 1

Such a peaceful place to relax after a day out exploring the black hills. The facilities (flush toilet, hot shower) are cleaned regularly and spotless. The Hosts put so much care and love into their property and it shows. Highway noise calms down throughout the night and was not a bother for us sleeping in a rooftop tent. I would highly recommend Plenty Star Ranch Retreat and camp here again.

Plenty Star- Tent/Car Campsite No 1

Isa was very welcoming. She was helpful and flexible. However, we left the site after the first morning, cutting our stay short. The primary reason is that the road noise was very loud and continuous, into late night. The camp is off rte 385 which is a major connector but Isa admitted the road surface is the problem. It felt like we were camping next to an interstate highway Other than the noise, the tent sites are clustered in one area; going to another area would be closer to the road. While water was available there was no place to clean after cooking except in the bathroom. Finally only one toilet for all the guests; which had we stayed might have become a problem. Luckily we found another place close by; not ideal but quieter and with more amenities. Sorry to day but I suggest you look elsewhere if noise is an issue for you.

This place is beautiful and immaculate. It has a wonderfully clean and efficient bath house and toilet. The giant willow trees were a hit and added amazing shade in the evenings for camp Rv site number one and number two. Picnic tables scattered all around. The host were very lovely people and had coffee and hot water for tea, etc., in the mornings. We would definitely stay here again And recommended to others in this area.

My two teen boys and I spent several days at Isa and Jack's. This is a 4.9 star camp site. Location was pretty great for us. We were using it as a base to explore the Black Hills area and it is perfectly situated for our needs. The only down fall to the location was the road noise. Though after 10pm the road noise was almost nonexistent. Tenting areas were plentiful, flat and dry. Tons of picnic tables and access to water was great. The restroom and shower house were extremely clean and very nice. Isa had hot coffee and hot water ready every morning. An assortment of tea bags was provided and instant oatmeal. Tent sites did not have electric but the porch had numerous outlets to help in charging phones. I am not an RV camper but if I was, this looked like a great place to be. Wifi access was great and the covered porch provided a nice shaded area to hang out. Plenty of free cut and split fire wood was on site. Of all the other RV and tent campgrounds in the area, this is the one to be at!

If you like to have a fire when you are camping, this is not the place for you. There are 2 communal fire pits. This is on private property, and one night we were getting coals ready to cook when the owner came out to complain the smoke was going towards her house.

Lovely, small campground near Custe

This is a lovely campground that is small, quiet, and convenient to Custer, Jewel Case NM and Wind Cave NP. There are just a few FHU sites and a few partial RV sites, as well as a number of tenting sites, a teepee and some cabins. The sites are reasonably spaced. The FHU sites have afternoon and evening shade from the willow trees. The owners take personal care of everything so it is in good condition. It is near a highway but not right next to it like many local CGs and this one is not a major truck route, and it quiets down well at night. Individual campsites do not have fire rings (there is one central fire setup), so some is not an issue. There are few amenities here, so mainly this is a good base to explore the Black Hills while avoiding the busy and crowded CGs seen all around Custer.

I have camped all over the United States, in private, National and State run campsites - Plenty Stars Ranch provides a tranquil setting with Beautifully kept grounds amazing views, a private large pond with geese and CLEEN Restrooms and HOT showers! My wife and I fell in love with the place !!

Isa was a wonderful host. We enjoyed the quiet of the camp. Got a chance to see her amazing art work. Not far from Custer and all the things to see and do in the area. Would definitely stay here instead of one of the resorts closer to town.

Isa and Jack had such a beautiful and peaceful campsite with great views and close access to all kinds of beautiful South Dakota sights. Isa greeted us right when we arrived and even helped us back in and get acquainted with the property. Would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area, and hope to be back some day!

This campsite was amazing. It felt so secluded and private but is such a short distance from so many great activities. The land is beautiful! Isa was super kind and accommodating.
