HOWL (Huntington Open Women's Land) is a mission-driven nonprofit which stewards 54 acres of land bordering on Camel’s Hump State Park, creating a space centered on women, trans people of all genders, and nonbinary people. We ask that if you camp with us, you respect our guidelines regarding gender and living in community with others. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, we offer a 15% off discount code. Space for one two- or four-person tent on the platform or ground. Note: Depending on the height of the meadow, you may be able to see a campsite downhill from here. 5-minute walk, 60 feet elevation gain Directions to Nawal El Saadawi: 1. Start at driveway at very top of road, to right of house. 2. Take main path straight uphill, past outhouse. 3. Just after a the plank bridge, take the right-hand path. 4. Continue uphill 1 minute to tent platform at treeline.

** Great Mountain View. Good for hammocks. Longer walk. ** One of our two most popular sites, with one of the best views. Named for the beloved Afrofuturist author. A perfect balance of meadow, fern-filled forest, and spectacular view of mountains and farm. Plenty of room for three tents or multiple hammocks. Stunning during golden hour in fall. 5-minute walk, 90 feet elevation gain. Directions to Octavia Butler: 1. Start at driveway at very top of road, to right of house. 2. Take main path straight uphill, past outhouse. 3. Look for treeline on right. Take path on right just before treeline and before small wooden planks in path. 4. Follow path uphill to your site at the curve of the treelike.

Crow's Nest (Crow Cohen)

One of our most popular sites. Best Mountain View, especially for sunset. Longer walk from parking and outhouse. This spacious site can fit three two-person tents comfortably. There is a sensational view over the mountains, and nearby woods for gathering firewood. Sleep to the sound of the stream falling down rocks. Memorable spot for a full moon fire, stargazing, or solstice gathering. 8-minute uphill walk, 60 ft elevation gain (carts available) Directions to Crow Cohen: 1. Start at the driveway at very top of road, on right side of house. 2. Take the main path straight uphill, past the outhouse. 3. Continue up the hill, over wooden plank bridge, almost all the way to top. 4. Look for a lone Red Maple tree, just before the edge of the forest. 5. Campsite with fire ring is to left off of path. (Please do not pitch tent in path by tree.)

** Secluded, no climbing, near a small pond ** A smaller site nestled into the meadow by the pond. Convenient to apple trees during harvest season. Big enough for two 2-person or one 4-person tent. No Mountain View. 2-3 minute walk, no elevation gain Limit of 4 guests for this site Directions to Qiu Jin: 1. Start from backyard just behind the house. 2. Take left-hand path directly away from house. 3. At the Communal Fire Ring, take the first path on the left and continue through the meadow. 4. Campsite is on your left, before the pond. Please camp at designated site, not next to the pond. Area directly next to pond is wet and prone to flooding.

Take the main path straight uphill, past the outhouse. 3. Continue up the hill. 4. Take second path on right (after chicken coop, before horse paddock). 5. Follow path toward the trees. Note: this path may be rough. 6. Campsite is on the right under a big maple tree, just before wooden bridge over stream.

Stay in the guest room in the shared farmhouse for an intentional living experience. Room with a double bed on the first floor, next to the shared bathroom. Bedding and towels provided. Cell service is not reliable, but the hot shower and Wifi are excellent. We have coffee, tea, spices, and some fridge space in the shared kitchen. No dogs or smoking in the house please.

This land is so special. The view from Octavia Butler was spectacular in the morning. It rained while we were there and having a bit of cover of the trees was really nice. The caretakers are very welcoming and its a great spot to hike Camel’s Hump!

We had a fabulous snowy campsite with wonderful views of the total eclipse. Highlights: kind and caring camp host (Meg), easy access but still felt remote and “off the grid”, friendly fellow campers. We will be back and highly recommend this camp to anyone looking for a great balance of solitude and connection. Simply lovely in every way.

I went tent camping here for the eclipse. I chose it because no cis men are allowed at HOWL. That made me feel safe to camp by myself for the first time. During this trip, I discovered that I'm capable of doing a LOT more things than I thought I was capable of before, and I'm going to take that knowledge home with me to apply to the rest of my life. There's a composting outhouse in easy walking distance, and just past that there's a building with a breezeway, wifi, a coffeemaker, and firewood for purchase. Outside that building there's an outdoor faucet with sink and a couple of picnic tables. The camping host was very friendly and helpful. The fire ring at the Wangaricampsite is very well maintained. Note that this campsite isn't bumpy, but it's also entirely on a slight incline.

Nice area, a lot of land so you have plenty of privacy, but you can head towqrds the house and picnic tables of you want to mingle with others. Lovely host, beautiful location.

11/10 would recommend! Such a beautiful spot with great company. Meg was great and so helpful. Microwave and wifi also really came in handy. Did have lots of snow despite no snow elsewhere but it was A fun experience!

We were warmly welcomed to the place. It was easy to check in and get to our encampment. We felt safe and cared for as well (even thou we didn't interact much with the crew). The land itself is beautiful and staying by the stream was soothing in many ways.

This is an amazing place to stay! Even though we arrived past check-in time (definitely recommend arriving earlier to be able to enjoy the spot in the daylight) we received a warm welcome and the hosts made sure we knew where we were going and that we were set for the night. It was a beautiful view to wake up to in the morning.

Our stay was wonderful! It was very quiet and remote, we fell asleep to the sound of the owls and a babbling brook. The caretakers were very sweet and everything was easy to navigate. We will be back!

I honestly can't put into words how much I loved both HOWL and my campsite. Everyone was so friendly, there was the most delicious water ever to drink, and an adorable outhouse. The common area had a good amount of picnic tables and chairs and strong wifi if you wanted to connect. The location is great if you want to hike Camel's Hump. Just ten minutes down the road to get to the trailhead. The campsite itself was perfectly situated. You are secluded from others but have an incredible view of the mountains. I was also able to watch fireflies in the field in front of my campsite. There is already a fire ring built and it was easy to forage for wood in the forest immediately behind the site. And one of the best parts for me is I brought my hammock and was able to out it up in the trees just behind the site and enjoy the view from there. I spent an afternoon just watching the view and relaxing and couldn't tear myself away.

Two friends and I had a great time at HOWL. The campsites are accessible and well-maintained, but it feels like you’re really out in quiet, open land, with roaming horses and fireflies as neighbors. Everyone was welcoming and water and wood were available.

I didn't end up camping, but spent the day at HOWL enjoying the company of friends and attending a Collective meeting. It was great to see so many people on the land. The Memorial Garden looks beautiful and we spent some peaceful time reading about our foremothers, who founded this community and kept it going. It was a treat to hang out and listen to the birds all day! Toward evening, the neighbors brought their horse to graze, which just speaks to the many joys of having this land for both humans and animals to enjoy!

Tips about the surrounding area, for example: various swimming holes, camels hump hike (campground is very close to trail head), The Hatchet 🪓 restaurant in Richmond. The carts at the campground to help bring gear to the sites. Friendly animals & people 🌈 🏕

Beautiful, peaceful place, with a lovely view from Octavia Butler tent site. We were excited about the lightning bugs in the field! The outhouse is adorable and clean, with toilet paper supplied. Access to a sink and firewood. Wifi works well at the house. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend and would stay there again. Also, consider visiting the Birds of Vermont museum nearby! It's a cool, unique stop.

The land is beautiful, obviously well cared for. The sites are all a good distance from one another so its easy to enjoy the nature sounds. Caretakers are very chill and helpful. Would definitely come back.

We enjoyed camping at the crows nest at Howls. There were beautiful views and we were fully immersed in nature. We were met by a caretaker who kindly helped us find the campsite. The outhouse was the cleanest and cutest outhouse I’ve ever used and we appreciated the sink for washing our cooking utensils. To sum up in a few phrases, clean, great amenities, friendly people, scenic vista. All you could ask for on a VT Memorial Day Weekend Trip. Thank you! Sophia
