Cute! Scott was very nice and even built us a fire for both nights of our stay. Loved the bus and the cooking supplies were a big help.

Fabulous! Peaceful location. Love the chickens and Finn the cat. The host Scott was informative and friendly. Loved the chat at the campfire. Very cool place! Lots of amenities. Really appreciated fresh eggs.

Air conditioning!
Good location (shortly off I-81) and plenty of room for us. Fire pit was well stocked and host was super nice and accommodating. Friendly cat who came to visit was a nice bonus!

My friend and I did have a great time staying at this rustic bus, but I did want to make some suggestions. The directions listed will take you on a road down from the actual location. We spent a good 20 minutes driving up and down the road wondering where this bus was located. We ended up pulling into one of the driveways and spoke with someone that stated he's had multiple people stop and ask where to find this specific camp. I'm mentioning this because it would've been really hard to find this at night. We figured out that we had to go down the highway, make a U turn and then you'll see the address on the mailbox.
The actual location is pretty close to the main house, but offers a ton of solitude and great nature vibes. We got to visit with the cat (Fin) who lives there- he was extremely friendly and loved to be pet. The bus was very rustic, smelling of pretty strong mildew. The fire pit was fully stocked of wood and ready to be burned! There's a ton of firewood around the property so I wouldn't worry about buying wood. We went into Fincastle and Daleville to have drinks and food. Overall, this was a very cute and very rustic place to stay.

The land was perfectly situated between Roanoke and the state parks! The bus had everything I needed and the posting was accurate to the description. Scott was very helpful and accommodating- I ran out of cooking gas and he went to the store and got some for me right away!
I felt safe as a solo female traveler!

Absolutely loved the bus! Very cool and unique experience. Plenty of space, lighting, and had want you needed. A/C was super cold!! Having a toilet inside the bus and running water was amazing. Using the host shower was not a problem. Host was friendly and helpful! I would highly recommend booking.

We needed a place to stay for a night, seen this cool bus and decided to book! First, it’s not that easy to find the spot. Nothing a simple sign won’t fix though. I didn’t realize that the bus sits right next to the host’s home. So this isn’t really that private for those that want a secluded feel. We’re all down for low thrills camping, but this seemed just a little under loved lacking that rustic charm we were hoping for. I don’t know if it’s been awhile since someone stayed but the appliances and amenities were very dusty and not clean. Especially the chairs and grill outside... I’m not expecting Airbnb but I also don’t want to deep clean things In order to use them. I much rather it not be offered at all. The listing say it sleeps two! Unless the other person is a child and can fit in one of the sitting areas , it’s hard to see how two ppl can sleep and comfortably. And if it was a way to create another bed, there were no instructions. Even though there was AC, it still needed better ventilation for air quality, cooking and the bathroom. I wanted to love this place. Still cool to be able to say we stayed in a vintage bus!

I would highly recommend staying here! The place was super cute and in good, clean condition. It was perfect for one person, might be tight for two people. Scott was very responsive and met me at check-in to show me around. He started the tiki torches and offered to start the fire for me both nights! His cat was very friendly, but would stay away if pushed away. Lots of good hiking in the area, and town is not too far away. The air conditioning worked very well. I had a great two-night stay!

Scott was very flexible and communicative with a long delay on my end. The place was easy to find and cozy, plenty of space to spread out.
Only caveat for the winter, not super warm! There’s a small space heater but slept with my coat on. The AC unit appears to be pretty robust for the summers, didn’t look too close but seemed like a standard window unit AC.

Scott’s bus was just what I was looking for! I needed a bed for a few hours on a road trip, and this location was a good stoping point for the night. I wish I had more time to spend in the area. The hosts were very friendly and helpful- I arrived late and they had tiki torches going for me outside the bus. The bed was comfy, the amenities were as described. Way more fun than stopping at a hotel along the highway!
To prospective guests who read the reviews with complaints- remember, this is an old bus, not a new hotel room. Don’t let Instagram mislead you into thinking that a 40 year old bus in the woods is a suite at the Marriott. This option is a step above camping, and the price reflects it. When you come with tictok fantasies and leave negative reviews, it hurts the hosts business. If you can’t conserve water or handle a bug, then go rent a hotel room. Hipcamp is a great resource, please don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

The info said there were showers available, there were not . It said 2 single beds , there is only 1 . We woke up the first morning and there was no water . Very poor communication with the host. They would not answer texts when we had questions. We had booked 2 nights , we left after the first one.

The bus is very cute & cozy, but there was black mold on the counter & an overwhelming aroma of moisture/mildew. It caused my partner to have a headache, and bothered our breathing to the point where we woke up in the middle of the night & slept in the car instead, which I could do for free.

We had a lovely stay in the bus. So nice to hang out in the woods beside a campfire and then sleep in an air conditioned space. Scott was responsive to texts and welcoming. We are already looking forward to our next trip!

Great place!! I booked this place at 6:15 pm and arrived at 8 pm, so it was super convenient. As a 6’2 person I could comfortably move around without hitting my head on the ceiling. A/C worked great, and it was wonderful to have a real toilet for the first time in 4 months. Bed was super comfy, and they had everything set up for me when I arrived, including lit tiki torches, a fully set up fire ready to light, a nicely made bed, and some coffee, syrup, and pancake mix. The house is definitely pretty close by, but I wasn’t bothered during my entire stay and it felt very private. Only downside was that the sink smelled kinda funky, and I might recommend bringing your own ice if you’re a stickler for very cold water. Overall awesome place, would totally stay again!

Air conditioning!
My six year old and I had a great time! He loved the tree swing, listening to frogs by the pond, s’mores on the fire, and chasing fireflies. Vera gave us a great recommendation for a nearby hike too. It was a wonderful day.
I recommend bringing your own drinking water and for navigation use the address, not the Hipcamp link to a map that opens up coordinates and sent me to the wrong place.

me and my boyfriend loved our unique stay at scott and vera’s! they were super accommodating and there are tons of trails/things to do super close by! the bus was fully stocked for our two night stay. we would definitely come back

A fantastic tranquil location with access to so many hikes, rivers, and parks! Comfortable bedding, and a peaceful spot. I did yoga under the trees & explored the grounds with the company of the cat, chickens, and wild deer.

It's a lot closer to the main house then I thought but still nice. Location is good for access to Jefferson National Forest and the many hiking trails. Sleeping two people is a little challenging but definitely doable. Scott and Vera are very considerate and let us use the shower in the main house and even offered to wash our dishes!

Unique experience only 30 minutes away from Roanoke. The bed was super comfy and the surrounding was very silent. Vera and her husband are very friendly and made sure we needed everything for our stay. I’d definitely go back.

Scott was very helpful. The bus didn’t quite sleep two comfortably though maybe it would work well for two younger folks. The cat Finn was cute and lovable but then kept us awake by jumping on the hood several times at night. The bus was nicely removed from highway noise, and the area they’d fixed up for their offsprings weddings was quite touching.

The first thing I was attracted to in this listing were the words “air conditioning”, as I wanted to camp but June heat made it unattractive. Next, I was attracted to the school bus, as it was a unique lodging. And the other attractor was all the positive reviews. Nothing in those three things was a disappointment. I was cool, comfortable, and happy. Though the owner’s house is on the property, I felt as though I was out in the middle of the woods. The bus is super cute and I enjoyed my first “glamping” experience. The a.c. was appreciated. The homeowner made sure I had a fire outside if I wanted one, and he made sure there was lighting fluid/bug repellant in the tiki torches. (I sat outside the first night and had zero problems with bugs…..and I HATE bugs. Also, the 2 resident kitties were Uber sweet and friendly. They were definitely a feature for me. Now….Fincastle. If you like small towns and/or history, go to the local history museum. I did and enjoyed it. I also did the history tour that was in their brochure. The buildings were fascinating to me!!! Very unique. A highlight for me was a stop at the local wood carver’s studio. Jake Cress has a variety of carvings all over town, including on many street signs. He has work owned by the Smithsonian and I was delighted to recognize a couple of pieces he had. He was friendly and happy to have a visitor in the studio. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the bus, and would love to return.
