Weekend Trip to Bear Creek Farm and Ranch

I love the privacy at our site. The pond must be full of bass and I caught one of the largest bluegill I’ve ever caught. If you love hearing frogs than it is definitely the place for you.! This was a very beautiful place to relax for the weekend. Can’t wait to come back and explore the farm more.

2 nights at East Woods on the IL River

I loved how you could drive back, in the field, to either camp out your vehicle, or walk into this wooded site. There is a firepit ready for use. You may have to bring your camp shovel, to cleanup the pit. There is a lot of wood, cut into large logs, so if you have something to cut it down too small pieces, great. The stream, that runs through there is nice, but not enough to go fishing in. If you don’t mind loud train noises, or an announcer, giving you a play by play announcement over a loud speaker. Overall, it’s pretty quiet all through the night.

My favorite camping spot in all of Illinois! It really feels like you’re in your own little world out here, but so close to town if you need anything. I love the river and the pond. The wildlife is bustling and this spot is incredibly peaceful!

1 night at Wine Trail Wilderness

Such a nice spot and a wonderful host! We really wish we could’ve stayed longer but had to be on our way. Are hoping to come back out to visit again and would absolutely recommend. The host met us at their property and guided us to the site, provided ample firewood, prepared the fire pit for us, and had ice water ready and more ice available. It was a nice stay for the dogs too!

Very large sites that are creekside. Very quiet and dark at night. Brady came by and brought me firewood! There is a cool old steel bridge beside Creekside 2 that leads to trails a person can explore. There are a few antiquities on the trail I walked from a time since past. Reminded me of the old farms I camped when i was younger. Great place to camp. Thank you Brady for offering your land for camping.

Was a cute little spot with enough space to chill and enjoy the sounds of nature! Train was a little loud but otherwise a fantastic spot for some peace! outside of the town so you can pick up food or supplies if needed!

My stay here was nice and enjoyable. I have a very tall and large vehicle, so driving through some parts of the site was narrow and I hit some above tree branches, but it was just big enough for me to fit through other than that. If you're coming here with a large vehicle, make sure you're confident with maneuvering it and you'll be fine! The road was well maintained, and I loved the space we had at Site 1. Omar was very kind and welcoming.

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay as it was the best parts of camping without any of the bad. Saturday pizza night was so yummy and we had a farm tour right before which was very fun. The power bank that was provided did die after a couple of hours so do plan accordingly. I assume it was just new and wasn’t charged fully before being given to us though. Would stay again:)

Weekend Trip to Welcome to our Magical Woods

My son and I had a wonderful time camping here. The host Heidi was very friendly and responsive. The camp grounds are on the backside of the property which functions as a horse farm where Heidi holds riding therapy. It was so much fun to see all the horses, and my son even got a riding lesson which he’d never done before. Heidi was so gracious in explaining how her farm works, and also sharing with us the background of all her animals. Many are rescues that she has given a loving and safe environment. We loved seeing the goat being followed around by a couple sheep everywhere, plus chickens where I got some fresh eggs for breakfast. A very friendly dog name Tiller will definitely show up at your campsite for some head scratches throughout your stay. Though there’s no fishing on site, the Illinois river is five minutes away and Heidi shared recommended fishing spots. I’ve never stayed at a place where you can’t drive up to your site, but they had a good system for transporting your gear, and it was super easy with no waiting. There’s maybe 5-6 camping sites on the trails in the woods. They all are pretty private compared to other places I’ve camped. It was nice to have a picnic table, another table, and a couple Adirondack chairs waiting for us. They also had fire starters a couple other helpful things. They delivered firewood to the site in their small tractor very quickly for the same price you’d get elsewhere. 10/10 would recommend

I loved camping on Brady's land! It's absolutely beautiful and I look forward to coming back again. I'm an artist, and came to paint landscape scenes, take photos of wildlife, and hike. I felt safe camping here alone. Brady provided firewood and a port-a-potty near my site, Lookout Point. He was very welcoming and gave me a map with all the trails marked. I enjoyed the many trails that wind throughout the property! Brady does a nice job of mowing so you can enjoy the dense forests. It was fun to hike around the land between the horseshoe bend of the creek. There are some interesting spots along the trail! I also loved hiking the quiet forests & fields of the property's south side where I saw some deer!

Kickapoo Creek Getaway

4 acres right on the creek when the water is low there is a huge beach you can even camp on don't worry about getting wet or using the beach that's all included. You can bring down your ATVs, go carts, dirt bikes ect for riding around the campground kiddy trails if you look in the "Extras" section it's only 5 dollars per vehicle. You can fish the creek there are some deep holes on some bends and near the far bank that a good fisher can spot right away. There is a big fire pit and ring usually there is enough wood around the property to get a fire going(unless everything is soaked from rain). I added a big charcoal grill, a hammock and another table by the fire pit as well (3 all together). There is a gravel parking spot just off the road (you will see our "Camp here with HipCamp" sign) that has enough room for 5 cars or so and you can park in the grass along the edge of the property by the road. **NEW AS OF 9/20/24** You can now drive down on to the property thru the access path north of the gravel parking area there is enough room to drive a truck and trailer and turn around down there. When it is wet the drive in is not rocked yet so just keep that in mind(i just started rocking in the drive this year 2025).**New as of 2025** i hired a mowing service and the campground main areas will be mowed weekly untill October. Sometimes the cars on the road can be loud at night but that's about all you gotta worry about on the wooded area but It is much quieter if you camp on the beach you can't hear the cars just loud frogs and bugs much nicer if you get the chance to camp down there. Daniel) less than 5 minutes away and others a bit further (Spitler or Sand Creek) Horseback riding may be available upon request - $25.00 per person or $50.00 per family. There is a large shaded playground in the front yard for the kids with a trampoline, small zip line, ninja line, slack line, silks, climbing dome, hammocks, etc. BATHROOM: If you are looking at the house from the street, the bathroom is on the right of the house, attached to the house. It accomodates up to 6 people, but fits 4 most comfortably. Outside, the camper has an outdoor kitchen equipped with a mini fridge, a griddle, and a 2 burner cooktop which utilizes the onboard propane system. TV is included in the main sleeping area, back area has 2 oversized bunks along with the middle area dinette which also converts into a sleeping area. Full bathroom is in the rear of the camper, with the cooking area placed across from the dinette. The outside area also features a full power awning with an LED light strip for additional lighting, and the camping space has a family style picnic table. Horseshoe Bend

Family owned private campground since the 1940's. Very secluded and private. Nice trails for hiking or biking. There is even a small "race track" in the bottom bowl near the creek. There are several direct access points to the creel for fishing or wading. We have miles of marked trails that are easy for everyone. Horseshoe Bend Main is a larger campground with four dispersed sites which a very spread out. This site has (3) 30 amp outlets for RV's. Porta potties are also provided. The Horseshoe Bend Creekside sites are designated spots that are on the West Panther creek bank. There are porta potties, but no electric or water.

Our woods transport you a world away, yet you are just a short walk from your vehicle and a short drive to Starved Rock, numerous parks, lakes, hiking, fishing and boating sites, stores, and restaurants. We have 4 well spaced campsites complete with fire pit, picnic table and a couple of chairs ready for you at your campsite. Rent 1 or rent them all! Just bring your tent or your hammock! Your initial firewood . lighter, trash and recycling cans, and firestarters are brought to your site before you arrive. Our "camp host" Tiller the big lovable doggo will patrol to scatter any trash pandas that might happen by. We keep track of him using GPS, so we know if He is hanging with you around the campfire. When his collar lights up and plays a tune, it's time for him to come home! Please send him on his way - thank you. We are LBGTQ+ and Very Family Friendly. Everyone is welcome here. Message us when you are 30 minutes out, so we can you our tractor to help bring your things to your site. Same at check out. Just let us know 30 mins before you are ready to go and we will help you pack out! Sorry you will not be able to drive your vehicle to your site. This keeps the woods quiet for all of our guests. Each site is just a few hundred feet from the parking area. The magical woods is located along the bridle trails behind our horse farm. Sorry, we do not offer trail rides as we have show horses. However you are welcome to arrange a visit to meet the animals when you arrive. We have horses, a miniature horse, a mule, miniature sheep and a very sweet goat named Hairy. There are about 50 chickens wandering the yard all day and we have 3 dogs and 3 cats that are always around. They are used to other dogs. We purchased our 45 acre farm in 1997, since then we have operated a sustainable small organic farm. In January of 2018 we purchased 58 more acres that is attached to our land. The property has a greenhouse, high tunnel and about a half acre of field that we raise vegetables and fruit on. We have a 3 acre pond with a naturally sustaining fish population, that we swim and boat in. There are hiking trails that go through many small pastures and woods with streams running through them. Plenty of wildlife, hiking and mountain biking areas. We have a certified kitchen at the farm and have products raised and/or made on the farm for folks to purchase. Supposedly our house is haunted and there are a couple of haunted sites within 15 miles of the farm. Nearby Taylorville has a Walmart, Aldi, Kroger, and many small local businesses. There is a YMCA and a few parks. Lake Sangchris State Park is close by. The capital of Illinois, Springfield is 35 miles from the farm.

Frakers Grove Farm

Frakers Grove Farm has been part of my family since the 1980s, but its history extends back to 1828 when Michael Fraker arrived and negotiated a peaceful settlement with the local Native American tribes, becoming the first settler in North Eastern Knox County. His grave, along with those of approximately 26 relatives and friends, is located on the property. Camp on a 250-acre farm in Western Illinois, featuring a 1.5-acre pond stocked with Blue Gill, Crappie, Wide Mouth Bass, Catfish, and resident Grass Carp, plus a small creek. The property also has trails and abundant wildlife, including deer, American river otters, beavers, geese, wood ducks, and raccoons. A Jon boat is available for use on the pond. We offer 1 Walk-in Camp Site and 1 Drive-In Site by the pond, each with a fire ring. RV camping is currently in a trial phase; your feedback is invaluable. This area provides primitive wooded camping behind and around the pond, with the RV site located next to the pole barn. Note: The RV site listing is not normally active, so please reach out in advance if interested. Guest WiFi is available near the buildings. Assistance with transporting tents and supplies to and from the campsite on check-in and check-out days is available upon request. Facilities include a Porta Potty and potable water from a yard hydrant, both located near the Pole Barn. NOTE: This is an active farm with considerable activity involving heavy machinery during the spring and fall. We currently have chickens and are taking a break from pigs. The newly established pasture is expected to yield grass hay this year to help fund new fencing, a preparatory step for introducing cows.
