1 night at Whispering Pines

Fantastic spot tucked away from everything. Clean, nice fire pit, and a wide open camp spot. I enjoyed it, I’m fairly sure the deer weren’t pleased I was there though! Awesome spot.

3 nights at Sunset Bay Getaway

If you’re looking for a loud cramped campground with trailers and tents on top of each other and you can hear the neighbors talking then you won’t enjoy this site. But if you want a true slice of paradise in God’s country with privacy and solitude then this is the place. Not having WiFi, TV, or phone service for a couple of days was truly remarkable relaxing experience. We played games, talked, watched the Bald Eagles and listened to the loons. Sheila our camp host was very accommodating and made us feel welcome and at home. We hope that we have the opportunity to revisit “Sunset Bay”

Kyle and Kelcie were very kind and accommodating hosts. The camper was very clean and comfortable and it was so fun waking up surrounded by the trees. Even though it was chilly, we also enjoyed the swimming pond (right after the amazing sauna!). Would highly recommend!

We loved our Monday-Friday stay in the apartment! It was very clean, cozy and quiet with comfortable sleeping accommodations. The hosts were very friendly and checking in and out was a breeze. Our kids especially loved looking for frogs near the pond and jumping on the water trampoline! We also enjoyed smores (fixings kindly provided by the hosts) and fires at night on the deck. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Had a wonderful stay at Hidden Pines! Loved the camp store and the firewood right on site! Site was secluded and had enough space for 2 4 man tents and a 1 man tent! Close to Barnum, MN if you need to make an Ice run! Excellent time! Will be coming back!

4 nights at Superior Beach Camp

We had a very nice stay at Superior beach camp. There is nothing better than an (almost) private beach on Lake Superior. The path down to the lake including the ladder/steps worked out better than I expected. Very clean Port-a-Potty and very private site with space for our dogs to run. The fire pit, grill and picnic table were nicely set up for us when we arrived also. Matt was very nice, he even sent a message letting us know there was a possibility of Northern Lights from the north during our stay.

3 nights at Hidden Pines

Beautiful and peaceful campground with friendly hosts and impeccable attention to detail. The campground turn-off is clearly marked and the campground has great signage to help you navigate the outhouse, firewood, parking area, and sites. I stayed at the only drive-up site, it was very spacious and private. I loved that firewood was available on-site as well as their little "general store" full of essentials incase you forget anything. The outhouse was clean and well maintained. The neighborhood is quiet and fairly remote, which I prefer and cell service was good (AT&T). I found lots of agates walking along the gravel roads in the area. Heard lots of wildlife at night: frogs, toads, coyotes, wolves and even saw a few deer while hiking. I enjoyed exploring their hiking trails each morning and immersing myself in nature. This was my first Hipcamp experience and I couldn't have had a better time! Aric & Beth were very responsive and accommodating hosts who work hard to maintain the campground and ensure their guests have a pleasant experience. I do plan on returning in the future and would recommend this spot to family/friends!

We had a great stay. The space is well maintained. It felt very private and it was tidy when we got there. It has an easy access to the the lake. The beach is beautiful. We would stay here again.

Weekend Trip to Woods and Meadows Farm

An amazing experience all around! Ann’s property is amazing with many trails to meander through. The cabin is beautiful with a lot of attention to detail. There is even a photo album with the Cabin’s history to look through. It is obvious the land and space are well cared for. We stopped for a night on our way to Madeline Island, Wisconsin and it was the perfect halfway point. Ann is very kind and attentive. Even providing extras for our dog. Her dog, Daisy, joined us for the evening and checked in the next morning. Daisy was the cherry on the Sunday! We appreciated being given some farm fresh eggs to cook while camping! We will definitely be back.

2 nights at Superior Beach Camp

This campsite was such a treasure! It was a wide open space with a separate area for a lookout and a quick walk to the beach. There were bears in the area, however we were able to park our car next to us which eased our minds. It was beautiful, private, and peaceful. There was even firewood already cut for us. The outhouse located on site was in pristine condition. We had a wonderful time.

A perfect little camp site up north. (2 adults, 2 golden retrievers.) Nice amenities and very scenic. Although we didn’t need anything, the little shop had lots of items for sale if you forgot something. Yard games were available for free to use. Alternate route trails to sites was a nice touch. Signage was very clear and parking area was nicely mowed.

This is a beautiful property! The site was spacious and included a a pop-up restroom, table/chairs, firewood, and a jug of water. The network of on-site trails very well-kept and are a nice amenity. Patty and Dan were friendly and accommodating.

Weekend Trip to Off-Grid Cabin

This is a very neat cabin, and you can tell a lot of work has been put into it. The cart to bring your belongings over the bridge was very handy, and it stayed very toasty warm despite the snow on the ground and frigid temperatures. The only downfalls were that the lights didn’t work, so I would recommend extra batteries for your headlamps. There are mice here so whatever you don’t keep in the fridge I would keep any food locked up in your cooler. Also, there is a constant odor of propane in the cabin which concerned me but I guess it’s normal. Overall this place is indeed off the grid, secluded, and very beautiful and unique. I’ll be looking to come back in my future ventures north.

Agate campsite is very generously sized and is all yours. Surrounded by a mix of poplar and birch with a few white pine sprinkled in, the main camp area is set back from the lake atop a 70' bluff with peekaboo views of Lake Superior. A short walk down a private path from your campsite gives you access to a beautiful Lake Superior beach to swim, skip rocks, search for agates, or just enjoy the panoramic views of the lake and the town of Duluth on the opposite shore. Agate campsite previously featured a "look out point" that has been altered by the natural erosion of the red clay banks that comprise much of Lake Superior's south shore. While you can still access this area, doing so will require more effort and care, and we no longer allow camping on the point. "All are welcome here." We love sharing our beautiful space, and want you to feel safe and secure. Explore woods, trails, meadows. Peaceful, private, close to bike trails, Jay Cooke State Park and Duluth. Each cabin has its own special ambiance. These are comfortable, rustic cabins with no running water (water supplied). -Not "ADA" however! *Well behaved, house broken dogs welcome, and supervised older children. ;) It helps us to know your ETA in advance and to update us so that we can plan our day as well! Once you are in the area, message us a bit before your arrival so we can meet you and set you up properly! We enjoy hosting, plus we enjoy hearing about your travels and adventures if you feel like sharing. Ask about local destinations/events! *We have free range chickens and friendly border collie. Sometimes there's a dog staying at the other cabin. Wildlife is also in the area, so we require that dogs be supervised and leashed, for their safety, and our wild animal neighbors. No dogs may be left unattended in our cabins while you go out! Take your canine pal with you! Quiet hours are dusk to 7am. Also consider your dog's inclination for barking. We keep the peace and quiet of all of our guests in mind. DRAGON LOFT has one double bed in a loft with a ladder. Great for two people. Room for a dog bed or kennel below the loft. Has a nice reading/coffee room, fridge, oil radiator, WiFi, deck with table and chairs and patio with fire ring. You can cook on a grill outside. You have full use of the trails in our woods! RAVEN WATCH is larger and comfortable for up to four people. Solar power, off grid (no WiFi). Double bed upstairs overlooking the pond, and downstairs by the cozy wood stove. A cute little kitchen with a nice gas stove and wash area. Fire ring outside. Wood supply. Price based on two adults. Small fee for up to two more people +pets. Farther from the house, closer to the creek and woods! Park next to the cabin. We raised our children here, and over 45 yrs have planted trees and pollinator acres. We always enjoy meeting other travelers. While living and teaching internationally we looked for adventure, staying in a wide range of hostels in developing countries around the globe. We are now retired but still traveling and exploring off-season.

Sunset Bay Getaway

Please Note: This is an Adults Only Hipcamp Location. Enjoy your stay at Sunset Bay Getaway in your own self contained RV or camper and enjoy the views of our beautiful lake. Relax in the evening around the firepit. We do offer firewood for sale. Just enjoy being in nature, listening to the sounds of the frogs and birds. Grab a bite to eat at a local bar/restaurant 1 mile away. ATV trails, fishing, hunting and nature walks all available close by. Dogs allowed but must be leashed and cleaned up after. Adults only. We do not have hookups for water, sewer or electric. We do not have restrooms or any facilities for hipcampers to use. All Hipcampers must have self contained RV's/Campers. The driveway to the camping/parking spots is a tad of a slope so keep that in mind when booking. The max length we allow is 34 Feet long due to the road to the camping spots. You might drag your bumper or hitch on your way down the hill to the spot. It's not hard to drive, it just is a bit steep and only gravel. We are always here to help if need be when you arrive. Bring bug dope, the bugs can be very hungry right about dusk time til about 30 min after the sun goes down. If you have kayaks or paddleboards you are welcome to bring them and enjoy the lake. Watercraft (boats/jet ski's) not allowed. This is a primitive camping spot, meaning no hook ups or WiFi. (no water/sewer/electric/wifi)

Hidden Pines

Come get away in our grove of balsam pine trees in a rural area with lots of wildlife to see and hear. We have 5 primitive campsites, one for large groups and three for smaller more private camping and one drive in site for camping out of vehicle or tent . We offer un mapped hiking trails onsite and there is plenty of activities to do within 10 to 15 miles from camp. Activities include swimming at local beaches, Nemadji State Forest, General CC Andrews State Forest, ATV riding, lots of great fishing lakes, several rivers for kayaking and canoeing, local restaurants, coffee houses, movie theater, general store, shopping, antiques/craft, grocery, gas, local brewery, agate center, fire museum. The land was purchased by the Sway family in the late 70's from a farmer and has been in the family since. We are one of the 4 current land owners of this property and plan to keep the land in the family as long as we can. Our home was built in 2011 on part of the property. Since living here we have used the land for hiking, gardening, wood harvesting, selling Christmas trees, and now we are excited for our new adventure of opening a small part of our land for camping. We are excited for you to enjoy our land as much as we do.
