We absolutely loved it! Our son absolutely loved the creek and so did we. We were able to roast marshmallows by the fire and even pet the pig. It was a very quaint area and the neighbors that we met while camping that were also camping were very pleasant.! We will definitely be back.!!!

We camped in the hilltop site in a tent. If you read everything that is sent to you, you’ll feel very prepared and at home. The host was awesome- clear instruction, maps, and detailed directions for our arrival. Firewood was delivered to our site and covered since rain was coming. There were trees around the site for a hammock, and for shade, and it made it feel a little more private. The tent area was gravel which was nice because the soil there is very red and it rained during our stay. The bathhouse is at the bottom of the hill but it wasn’t a problem for us to walk. The views are so beautiful and from this site they are unobstructed. Our last night, every site was full, but even with people in every spot, no tent or camper was positioned to block out view- that was careful thorough planning. There’s also an open field in front of our site where my kids ran and played ball and chased fireflies. Room to move was such a blessing. The Wi-Fi worked for us and I appreciated having that link at night with no cell reception at the site. We would absolutely camp here again and I feel blessed to find a safe and quiet spot to camp as a single mom with two small kids. We were also a VERY short trip to Gatlinburg and only an hour from Alum Cave, Newfound Gap and Chimney Tops.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was wonderful! It is conveniently located near the great smoky mountains national park which made it easy to do hiking and other activities in the park. Hosts were very accommodating to a last minute request we had to stay in a pop up camper the last night since my husband and never stayed in one before. Great view from the hilltop camp site. 10/10 recommended!

Andrew has such a beautiful spot tucked in the mountains! We loved camping next to the creek. Andrew was very attentive! He drove past our campsite while we were struggling to get a fire started due to kindling and wood being wet from all the rain they’ve had in this area the last couple of months. He gave us some supplies to help! It ended up pouring later so we didn’t get to have a fire. I saw that I was issued a refund for the price of the firewood I had purchased when I made the reservation. Wow Andrew is so kind! We would love to come back hopefully with better weather to fully enjoy what an amazing site this is!

I loved this hip camp I even extended my night an extra day! I enjoyed the water views and that it was very peaceful. It very close to Helen, Unicoi and other places to hike or explore so awesome location. I am not really sure how it’s set up though….if the lake site numbers matter or if it’s just first come first serve but I enjoyed it. The owners and other people that live on property were nice! And they have a full kitchen thats shared with the people who live there and bathrooms shared with them as well. For a campsite it’s nice amenities. Also includes free fire wood which is awesome!

Andrew was very nice! We stayed at Big Ian. Gorgeous view! Lots of privacy. The road getting back to the camp ground and then up to the site was a decent journey. Wouldn't particularly want to make that journey multiple times a day. Lots of rain in June, but we stayed dry overnight in the tent and were out on hikes all day during the day.

Really enjoyed this location, was nice because there wasn't anyone next to us, I feel it would be a little tight to have both number one and to sites filled. I know a lot of people don't mind the tight fit but that's one of the reasons we choose hip Camp over RV parks is to have a little more personal space. Beautiful creek, nice big yard for the dog to run around in. Would definitely return.

The magical setting, the crystal clear stream, the incredible fire globe, themed cabins and the sweetest host and rescue animals!! We felt like we stepped into another world and loved it so much! Around every corner, day and night, is a new delight to surprise you. All spaces are super clean and every detail is beyond creative and sweet. Don’t hesitate to book your trip solo or with a group of friends. You will not be disappointed. We enjoyed Lake Chatuge and Laughing dog brewery nearby as well if you want to venture out, but you will have plenty of magical sights to see at the campground if you decide to stay put the whole time. Nestled into the foothills of North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains, Robbinsville offers epic outdoor recreation. A population of around 500 people means light pollution is low and stargazing is easily achieved right from the campground. Lake Santeetlah highlights iconic fishing spots within a 15-minute drive. Roll in with a campervan and book a pull-through site with a firepit for sizzling up freshly-caught fish, or find a tent campsite with a hammock and search for shooting stars after nightfall. Further out is the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest showcasing towering old-growth trees over 100 feet tall. To get a taste of city life, head east to Asheville and stop in at one of the many art galleries.

Where to go

Lake Santeetlah

Lake Santeetlah boasts 76 miles of shoreline and tons of freshwater fish. Motorized boats are allowed, with several companies offering boat and jet ski rentals. Head to the Charikus Branch and Ground Squirrel Branch for calm waters. Then, conquer the 3.3-mile North Loop hiking trail—a well-maintained pebble pathway makes it accessible for young kids and strollers. There are pet-friendly tent campsites nearby offering wooden tent pads and picnic tables. Or opt for a glamping experience on a farm featuring wooden cabins equipped with fire rings, outdoor showers, and pit toilets.

Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest

The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest is a 3,800-acre section of Nantahala National Forest. Some of the old-growth trees found here are more than 400 years old and more than 6 feet in diameter. Drive 30-minutes northwest from Robbinsville and leave early because parking is limited. View the towering ancient giants by walking the 2.1-mile Joyce Kilmer Memorial Loop Trail before breaking for lunch at the picnic tables near the entrance. While there are no campsites within the forest itself, there are plenty of tent and RV campgrounds close by.

Asheville

Head 1.5-hours east from Robbinsville to see the hustle and bustle of Asheville. Teeming with art galleries, live music venues, and views of the Appalachian Mountains, there’s plenty to do. Visit the Asheville Pinball Museum, The North Carolina Arboretum, or Asheville Treetop Adventure Park for an exhilarating zipline tour and a forest canopy obstacle course. Settle the campervan into a nearby riverside RV campsite outfitted with full hookups for water and electricity, in addition to dump stations. Or set up a home base at Blue Ridge Recreation Park with tent and RV campgrounds close to waterfalls and lakes.

When to go

The summer season lasts from early June until late September, and it generally doesn’t get hotter than 86°F (but it’s very humid). Rainfall is also common throughout the summer months with July getting the most precipitation. Star gazers should consider visiting in September and October as they typically have the clearest skies. Winter rolls around in early November, and snow is seen from December until March, with the majority of it occurring in January. Spring and fall are usually the best seasons for fishing, just keep in mind that regulations vary depending on the month, so plan accordingly.
