Weekend Trip to River Hills Above the Allegheny

Had a wonderful time camping at Chris’ land. The stargazing is no joke! Once it gets dark the field is full of so many constellations. Comfortable set up. Best compost toilet Iv’e ever used. Chris was very nice.

Weekend Trip to River Hills Above the Allegheny

Was a perfect weekend getaway! Our top of the jeep tent worked perfect. Campsite was clean, beautiful setting, level enough and well maintained. Was wonderful to meet Chris and his family - most gracious hosts. Enjoyed just relaxing and meandering through the woods and meadow on easy to follow trails. Loved finding the falls and appreciated the little bridge and steps down. Only con was little bit noisy and that was maybe due to holiday weekend. Lot of ATV or maybe dirt bike noise carried up through the canyon and Sunday shooting at the firing range. None of that under Chris’s control and wasn’t unbearable but it was unexpected. Saw deer and awoke to birds singing. Even heard an owl Saturday night which was super cool. Campsites are spaced to where you don’t hear one another with plenty of elbow room. Wish could have seen more of the river from the site but can’t complain about the lush foliage can we?? Overall loved it and shout out to Chris and his family for their hospitality and for all the work they have put in. Great people! Of note, there is a porta potty kinda centrally located for all the sites to access BUT just easier to find a secluded spot on your own without making that walk.

this was one of our favorite campsites we’ve seen! the space was so secluded & peaceful, it was everything we could’ve ever imagined. the host was so responsive, made sure we were in good hands, and was so accommodating for our spontaneous last minute trip!! (: we will 1000% be staying here again in the near future, and will be recommending it to anyone and everyone. we also stopped at the crows cupboard in the afternoon for coffee and pastries, and had the most lovely time there. the owner was so kind, genuine, and ensured we had everything we needed and more. thank you chris for a lovely time on your campsite! (: we look forward to visiting again soon!

1 night at River Hills Above the Allegheny

Ok, here's the deal: if you are looking for a place to just be in nature, get away from the noise, and have privacy - you need to book this spot immediately. I had the pleasure of meeting Chris & chatting with him a bit about his property. He's a lovely host, and very accommodating. The waterfall area alone is reason to book this site. No crowds. Just you (and your crew, if you prefer). I seriously felt like I was in a LOTR movie, frolicking around barefoot on the rocks. The land is gorgeous. The waterfall and stream are so relaxing. If you're seeking a private, secluded feeling - Pine Canopy is for you! Plenty of trees to hang hammocks on and you felt cozy in your own little corner of the woods. Plus, the compost toilet is super close (if that's a concern for you). The toilets were clean, which was cool. If you're wanting a more expansive view - then you've got to book the River Ridge site. FWIW, I have a Rav4 Hybrid that was fine going up the trail. I just made sure the conditions were ok, and Chris had done a great job of putting rocks down. It actually rained overnight so the trail was muddy and I made it down the path with no issue. Honestly the best part for me? My dog was able to roam free! She was so happy running around the property, free as could be, just like her wild self. It was awesome. 100 out of 10 // will absolutely book again // and tell all of my friends

We loved the spot. Secluded and lots of ferns! Would definitely stay again. Very close to ohiopyle state park as well.

This site was such a beautiful place to camp at. It was very clean upon arrival and the canopy of trees was gorgeous. I also appreciated the spacious wooden platform for our tent. Ill definitely be back and will hopefully be able to stay a bit longer next time.

Weekend Trip to Muddy Myst

I find myself battling a bit of selfishness while typing this review. I almost don't even want to tell anyone how perfect this place is. I don't want anyone else to know about it. But Liam and his family deserve the absolute most glowing review. Muddy Myst is perfect...Im not saying that loosely... I mean it is actually perfect. I can't believe such a place exists this close to me. There really are no words to capture the beauty of this site. I hope the few pictures we have included will do it justice. Thank you Liam! You really gave a gift to the rest of us by opening your land up to those of us who are looking for a retreat from the daily grind of life. Your parents were also so warm and welcoming! Hey Tom! You guys are awesome and we can't wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Evelyne’s Farm

It’s a beautiful and quite place to be. We had an amazing night right next to the creek and the calming sounds of it. The free firewood and the farm fresh eggs handed with love where another highlight. Thanks for that!

I've stayed here twice now. Jennifer has a private, quiet spot in the West Tent. Spots like this are perfect for me in that i carry a tent with me all the time but when driving a 2 day transit, it's nice to have one up already. I haven't used the East Tent but this faces west for the a ice sunset over the field.

Weekend Trip to Sycamore Island

So great! The campsite is large enough for two two-person tents, with a fire ring and picnic table. There's plenty of fallen wood around the island to gather for a fire - bring a hatchet or ax to chop it to size. If you canoe/kayak over, be sure to tie up; the river rose 3 feet overnight due to a downpour two nights earlier, and if my partner hadn't secured the canoes, they would have been long gone.

The spot was beautiful, & I loved the animals. The view from the meadow was exceptional, & we could see three states from where we were. It rained, so there was a small challenge getting up to the spot, but we backed in. It was fine from there. Chelsea is so friendly & accommodating. She’s doing good things for kids on her farm!

Great location if you love water side. The site was amazing, we fished and had a fire at our site every day / night. The management team and workers at Blue Canoe are top notch. The bike trail and kayaking all at your figertips is just awesome.. We bought a site there. That's how much we loved it!

We had a great time at the cabin! Gerald was such a wonderful host, it was a last minute kind of trip and he was so accommodating. All of the animals on the farm were so friendly and patient with my 4 year old son and 2 wild dogs. It was such a delight watching my son and bigger dog interact with the horses and Petunia the pig. My dog was off on his own hanging out with the horses and goats half the trip, I don’t think he’s ever had so much fun. He slept for about 24 hours after we got home lol. Gerald’s care and training of the animals is amazing. My 4 year old was riding a horse all in his own, my girlfriend got to ride an award winning shire, and I enjoyed the company of a kind and gentle pony :) . We highly recommend Gerry and his property and will be returning soon. Don’t forget to add some farm fresh eggs to your trip!

Although the train runs near by a few times a day, it will hardly be noticed while you are enjoying the beauty of the area. The Allegheny Passage bike trail runs nearby across the river. You can access it using the Layton bridge that crosses the river over our property. We have a very strict no asshole policy. If you are an asshole or plan to bring an asshole with you please go camp at the KOA. Camping is not an all night or two day tailgate party, hooping it up, drinking or doing drugs all night on your weekend off with 20 of your friends. Camping at our sites should be calm and relaxing. Other campers and people in general should not have to hear you, your music, or your fun and you should not have to hear theres. We have a strict no generator rule, no guns, no fire works, no amplified or loud music and again no assholes. Your neighbor may not like your music. If you must listen to music use head phones. Please do not leave any thing at the site when leaving and leave it better than you found it. The boat rental store sales snacks, ice and bait. It does not sell wood or large water bottles. Campers should bring water. We do not have showers but do have running hot and cold water in the change rooms at the boat rental. Port-a-pottys are near by. Please use them. Do not poop in the woods and leave your shit paper laying there. That's gross.

Located just outside of Parker, PA and 25 minutes from I-80, our campsite is very accessible, yet still very remote. With 4 campsites on 75 acres, guests have ample privacy and space, with the freedom to roam this posted property that has no homes on it. Perched high above the Allegheny there are several spots to take in the wonderful views. There is also a waterfall with a 3’ deep pool below it. Great for splashing with kids or dogs, guests love exploring the creek bottom and making new discoveries. The more curious guests sometimes find the ruins of the original homestead, chimney and spring house that sit upstream. The property is teeming with wildlife. Birds and tree frogs will be the soundtrack of your visit, and often deer will be seen nosing along the outskirts of your site in the mornings and evenings. Turkey, bald eagles and even bear are occasionally spotted, so be prepared to secure your food and trash at night. For those coming to disconnect, you have found the right place. In 1936, both Sycamore Island and Nine Mile Island were leased from the Pennsylvania Railroad by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, making these islands the first bird sanctuaries in the Pittsburgh region. The Harbor Isle Boat Club was in existence on the island during the late 1960s but was later abandoned leaving behind several significant features; including a barge that remains embedded in the sand at the island’s southern tip, a partially installed swimming pool, docking platform, and a series of offshore pilings in the back channel.

Sunnyday's Forest

Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 30 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods.Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away. Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter. The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away. It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs. We provide a bunk bed and cots and 2 picnic tables.. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents. There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin, but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures. The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk! If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

Lord willin', more RV and camp sites will be on the way! We intend to be available May 1st to October 31st (weather pending). Pricing is about $40+ less (nightly) than the KOA! Plus you get a huge space. There is no bath house, sewer/dump station (for black/gray water), or showers at this time, but you'll see we are working towards those things. With good planning and if you prefer, we can be there to help you set up. The site will be clearly marked, and there is more than enough room to back in/out. We can host the largest of rigs (even up to 45 feet). As you can imagine, it takes a lot of mowing to manage grounds of this size. There is a red storage building (for our mower) about 10 yards from the site that we reserve the right to access. We want the place in top shape for you, and we will not mow or weed-wack near your site during your stay. We do have three well behaved pups, and we are about 60 yards away from this site in our cabin. Sorry to say, we are not yet comfortable with guests bringing pets, but this may change soon. Outside Pennsylvania's second-largest city exists a mecca for all things nature. Camping near Pittsburg allows you to enjoy Pennsylvania's expansive pine and oak forests. The Monghale River runs through much of the region, letting outdoor lovers fish for trout, as well as largemouth bath. Some kayaking and canoeing push-off points can be found along the river, as well.
