1 night at Creekside campsites

Pitched a tent with my family and we had an awesome time. The campsites were close together but we were the only ones there so it was private. The shower and bathroom facilities are very clean and well kept. Sleeping by the soft sounds of the rolling creek was amazing. There was plenty of chopped firewood ready for use. I would definitely go there again.

About 20 minutes off 81, but WELL worth the short detour! Well spaced sites equipped with water, electric, a grill, and fire pit right by creek. Super clean bathhouse with flush toilet, and a wonderful outdoor shower. Peaceful sleeping to sounds of frogs. Beautiful site.

One of our favorites now! The sound of the creek at night was so peaceful. The bathroom was really clean, really nice outdoor shower setup. The creek was nice to sit in and our dog and son enjoyed playing in it. Jodie is so nice and responds very quickly! We will definitely be back!

This was one of the very best Hipcamp sites I have visited. I had the "up on top" site that was wide open, spacious, with a spectacular view of the valley and mountains beyond, and total privacy. The host, David, was gracious and kind enough to give me a tour of the entire property. That was a real highlight.

2 nights at Bluestone Camp & Retreat

The road to get to the camp is hard but it’s worth it. If you’ve been following the Lord, it’s a hard road, but it’s absolutely worth it. When you get to the little church that’s hidden in the corner and the cross is there overlooking the most amazing view, You can just sit there and enjoy the presence of God. Probably the best church service I’ve ever had just sitting there at that wooden cross. If it’s the afternoon, and you have a chance to stand in the shadow of the cross, raise your hands and see that it was you hanging on that cross in the shadow. The most spiritual event that I’ve had in a long, long, long, long time.

Weekend Trip to 100 Acre Wood

Took my kids to Up On Top for the weekend and we had the best time. Really a core memory trip for them exploring, getting to ride David’s ATV and touring his wood shop, cooking out our meals, and having an amazing mountain view. David and Kathy were outstanding hosts and made us feel welcomed and at home the entire time. This was our first HipCamp trip and it will be hard to beat. Great weekend all around. Highly, highly recommend.

Jodie is easy to communicate with and Creekside is as lush and beautiful as you would hope it would be. There are several different ways to stay, I.e., rv/tent/cottage and I even saw the nicest campsite/glampsite with lights and a hot tub directly on the water’s edge. Really nice bathroom and outdoor shower. Charming town nearby but you are tucked away in this VERY WELL taken care of property which has been lovingly cultivated. Thank you, Jodee, for sharing this hidden gem with us.

101 Acres of forested land in the Draper, Virginia area with scattered clearings that are connected by various roads/trails throughout. Over the years cutting roads has been a hobby that has resulted in miles of cleared roads and paths throughout the property that are perfect for hiking, running, cycling, and horseback riding. The property includes a small creek, several ravines, ridge lines and trails to explore. We frequently encounter deer, rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional turkey, black bear, coyotes and Bigfoot. The thing people seem to enjoy most is the privacy and and quiet that allows you to connect with nature with no one else around. Each of the 3 sites is hundreds of yards away from each other. Things to watch out for other than the wildlife mentioned above the two main concerns in this part of Virginia are deer ticks and poison ivy. We are located about 5 minutes from I-81 or 15 minutes from I-77 making it an easy place to stop when passing through on your way to other adventures. If you are coming on I-81, use exit 89-A. Don't let Google maps take you to Frog Level Ct near the town of Pulaski (LOL). Nearby attractions include Appalachian Gem and Gold Mine on Route 100 (5 min), New River Trail State Park (10 min), Claytor Lake State Park (20 min) and the Town of Draper has a couple small town shops to explore including The Draper Mercantile and Trading Company and the newly opened Conery where you can get wonderful ice cream cones and more. Also, check out the Draper Mountain overlook on Rt 11, just 10 minutes from our HipCamp. We love hosting campers and are happy to help make accommodations to help you have an enjoyable stay. We have 3 sites but only allow 2 to be in use at a time on the property. This insures that all guests continue to feel complete privacy from others and allows us to always have an alternate site available if campers want to change. Available "Extras" include portable toilet setup, Woodshop class making a cutting board, big foot siting's as well as various camping gear items and games. If there are other extra's you would like to see or something you forgot to bring please let us know and we will see what we can do.

There is only one farm past ours so road traffic is very minimal. Plenty of room to do what you and your pets want to do while exploring on our 60 acres. Come enjoy the view and recharge and relax in peace and quiet. The sun rises up behind the view and lets you see just a little further. It is nothing short of amazing. The sunrise and the stars out here on a clear night are two of the best things this mountain has to offer. It will not disappoint. We can accommodate up to a 35ft RV. The best part is no long walk for the best views! You can park at the campsites and camp on flat ground. Each campsite features a bench and a camp cooktop. Nothing is needed to use the cook tops other than a campfire. The area has many parks, rivers and trails for fly fishing, kayaking, biking, hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, and photography, etc. View stars as only those miles away from any light can experience. Jessup Mill

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants including hemp. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.) We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection. Only site 4 is next to the brook. However, the site positions are for the purposes of the listing only. You may camp anywhere on the property. There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. The toilets at the treehouse and the bus are flushing, camping toilets with sinks. We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877. The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923. Learn more about this land: Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature. The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb. Camping here along Reed Creek is peaceful and quiet. Located just a few short miles from town it is easy to get to ...but a long way from the world at large. The village of Ferrum has an up and coming nature park, and Ferrum College, a small, rural, 4-year liberal arts college that holds the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival every fourth Saturday in October. We are about 45 minutes from Martinsville Raceway, a NASCAR facility; an hour from Booker T Washington Park, and the D Day memorial is in Bedford. We are 45 minutes from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and a half hour from Floyd. Floyd Fest is held in July and is a great weekend of music. We are an hour from Smith Mountain Lake for boating, sailing, fishing and recreation and about a half hour from Philpott Lake for boating, fishing and swimming on a less-crowded scale. If you are into history, we are an hour from Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's second home. Going farther afield, we are 4 hours from Washington, D.C., 3 hours from Charlottesville, 2 hours from Charlotte, NC, and about an hour from Greensboro/Winston-Salem. Looking for a weekend getaway? Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail). Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. The property itself is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying. The property owner (my dad, who is in his mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives in a log home that is across the field on the adjacent property. He is probably going to stop by to say hi. The top of our ridge called "soil road" used to be the main traveling path back in the settler days. The house at the bottom of our driveway used to be the towns post office, and there is a cave back on the creek where soldiers during the civil war camped out in. We are a working farm during the day so if you choose to walk down the ridge you'll find outside working with the animals or in the flower or produce garden. There is a lot of great fishing in the creek so make sure to bring your rod! We love pets so yours are welcome, and there are a lot of hiking trails and cute towns around us.
