We loved our stay so much! The gravel road was smother than most black top roads! We pulled into our site and was so surprised to see such a clean, well put together site! We backed our truck camper in with ease and had a nice level pad. It was such a great perk of firewood, tiki torches! Solar lights were such a nice surprise and lit the path to the cleanest porta-potty I’ve ever seen!! We had the pleasure of meeting our host the next morning and he welcomed us and invited us to stay for the day with our dogs and check out flat rock! What an amazing area. Worth every single penny! You must stay here if you’re in the area!

At first I was "upset" at myself for paying $75 a night to camp!! We camp frequently and have always paid on the average of $35 a night. All my worries of the excessive money spent melted away as soon as we arrived! THIS was THE MOST beautiful, well-maintained site we have ever stayed at. The tiki torches were a nice touch as well as the beautiful fireplace with the cooking rack above and the wooden "stools." The porta-potty was sparkling clean and the unlimited supply of firewood was an awesome added benefit. Also, the sound of the moving water in the river was a welcomed sound at night. I am from Maine and we visit many times a year but have never been to Winterport. There isnt much to do which made it an ideal weekend to relax. The purpose of our trip was to see our sons stunt show at the Dragway in town and we did find the quaint little winery and consignment shop also. The old houses were also beautiful to look at. We did wish it had more to offer in the way of restaurants but we figured it out!

Suspension Tent on the River
We had a great stay on Claude's land. The suspension tent was fun, and the space was absolutely lovely. We had the whole place to ourselves on this September weekend and it was just amazing to explore the river, relax in the sun out in the rocks, ... The site was way back in the woods, but easily accessible, and had everything we could have needed, including lots of firewood, the nicest firepit we've evenly seen at a Hipcamp, and spotless port-o-potties. For some reason Hipcamp just gave me GPS coordinates, but Claude's gave us clear directions and, ince mentioned, there was a clear sign out at the street. We loved our stay and cannot wait to return.

Suspension Tent on the River
I visited the Suspension Tent site for a couple days last weekend with my two boys - 8 and 6 years old. The location is amazing. The site was in great condition. We had a great time hiking up and down the river, fishing, exploring, and enjoying the camp. We will definitely be going back again.
The only bit of feedback to consider is that the suspension tent seemed to be prone to taking in some water when it rained. Please make sure it's secure and fully covered. Or set up another tent for added security.

My family really enjoyed our camping stay at Flat Rock. It was one of the nicest camping spots we’ve been to. There were campers at the other sites, but there was plenty of space between. The large fire pit and tiki torches were a nice touch. The river view was beautiful and we all enjoyed the swimming hole. I would highly recommend!!

This place is pure magic. We were lucky enough to be completely alone (a few other sites are nearby). Even if people were there, each site is private. Easily accessible, 20 minutes from Bangor and an hour from Acadia. I cannot wait to go back. The river is amazing, many swimming spots. The small details Claude added to each site were perfect. Amazing cook grill, tiki torches, big trash can, kayaks, tubes for floating, stumps made into tables and chairs. Truly an unforgettable place.

Flat Rock Big Oak
Great spot. I was initially disappointed that the flat rocks are open to non-campers and the fact that the 3 sites are relatively close together. However, this didn't prove to be a major issue as we were camping mid-week and there wasn't that much additional traffic. Claude is exceptionally nice, the campground is very clean, and we had a great time exploring in one of the canoes/kayaks available at the site. Would definitely recommend.

Flat Rock campground is one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed at. The river, swim hole, waterfalls were absolutely delightful. We did have perfect, sunny weather. We were there on a Thursday/Friday and had the place almost to ourselves. The site was clean, well groomed, had the nicest firepit WITH firewood included as well as tiki torches, fuel, even BBQ fork! We also used the canoe and there were many kayaks available. The price was a little expensive for camping but it included all the above perks, so it wasn't unreasonably priced. Claude met us and was very personable and told us to text with any issue. We will definitely go back! Wonderful experience.

Suspension Tent on the River
The site location was lovely, right next to the river. It was shallow enough to wade in and feel fish nibble your toes, surprisingly warm for moving water but refreshing nonetheless. The suspension tent was a fun bonus amenity- and the perfect place for a midday nap. Another accommodation that went above and beyond was the ample firewood provided. The fire pit was great for cooking and the table provided was helpful for prep. We were also impressed by how clean and well maintained the portapotty was.
The only downside I have to mention is that I was under the impression it was just one site, completely private for several acres. However, this was not the case. I’m not sure if I misunderstood or if it just wasn’t made clear, but my biggest criteria when looking for a campsite was that it was secluded so we didn’t have to worry about our reactive dogs being bothered by and/or bothering other campers, but there was another site ~50ft through the woods with their own reactive dog.
All in all, we had an amazing time and would definitely camp at this amazing site again. We just felt bad our dogs had to stay on leash and were barking back and forth with the neighbor’s dog.

This was not our first visit to the suspension tent and everything was just as we remembered: clean, beautiful, thoughtfully set up, and private. It was, however, our first night in the suspension tent through some rain, and it held up really nicely without getting too humid. The surrounding trees did well to keep most of the site dry too. Claude is a great host and even checked in to see if we wanted the suspension tent up or down, but we love the ‘ufo tent’! Most likely will be back again.

Claude has a great piece of property and we are thankful he shares it on hipcamp. Very clean and well taken care of. I am confident this will be a top place to stay in Maine. We are already planning another trip to the Flat Rock !!

This site was amazing! Incredible swimming home attached to site. Lots of firewood and a trash can we’re provided along with the suspension tent which provided great shade during the day time. We encountered some heavy rain which cause for a pretty bad flood of the campsite but there isn’t much you can do about weather. Overall awesome experience.

Loved our short stay!! Absolutely beautiful, private spot and LOVED that its such a small campground. Very nicely curated/kept with kick-ass firepit/grill and tiki-torches, EXACTLY what we were looking for on our last night of camping with our 2 pups.
Only 'disappointment' (if you could even call it that) was that the bank was overgrown where it really impeded the view of/access to the river directly from the campsite which we were really looking forward to. Sitting up in the tent and in the top of our pop-up we had a nice view - but other than that we got to enjoy the sound of the river more than anything else at the site itself. The swimming hole access and the river is amazing, would have loved to be able to spend a whole day out there. Nice little separate spots with different sandy shallow areas and more gentle currents, the dogs had a blast and the water was beautiful.
Would absolutely stay again, so glad we decided to take the drive!

We loved this campsite. I misunderstood the description and was surprised to see other campers nearby, but we loved it nonetheless. Our kids loved walking down to swim at the flat rocks. The toilets were clean and accessible, and the site was very well kept with tiki torches to keep mosquitoes away. There was a nice table and plenty of firewood as well. The sound of the river was perfect to sleep to. Highly recommend!

Really nice spot. Short walk to a lovely rustic swimming hole. Campsite was well cared for. Porta potty only a short walk away was clean and stocked with toilet paper. The sound of the river lulled us to sleep each night! We didn’t use the suspended tent but did climb up to check it out, really neat in there! Tiki torches all around to help keep bugs away. Very relaxing overall.

Pictures do not do this place justice. The site was well kept and quiet. The river is beautiful and the swimming is great!
Clause was beyond helpful and accommodating. He even offered to help with the tent. We don’t take him up on it but after a rainstorm he popped by to check if we needed anything.
The weekend was quiet and fun for the kids. The pups loved to too.
5⭐️ they are stewarding a beautiful spot up there in Winterport.

What an awesome spot! We didn't end up using the suspension tent (looked very cool) as we slept in our van which we were able to drive down a bit of an incline to very level spot alongside the tent and beside the river. Site was very well equipped with firewood and an awesome firepit/grill and picnic table and stumps to sit on. Claude was super- responsive to my questions prior to arrival , friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back.

We’ve Hipcamp’d all over New England and Flatrock on the river is a special place! The suspension tent was a very cool experience, and it held the 3 of us easily. The riverside site was perfect, and the swimming hole was absolutely incredible!
Claude was a great host, and helped us out when we needed a little more firewood.
