Beautiful place to see some elk if you're in a smaller rig. Our 40' fifth wheel was WAY too large and it proved to be problematic.
Host was great with fantastic communication. This would probably be an appropriate stop for rigs under 28'.

Wonderful place! Kevin and his wife were very kind and welcoming. The site is level with a great view of the mountains and an old church.
I woke up in the morning with two Elk in the yard and then Kevin showed me his own mountain bike trails. Truly a place not to miss.

Our decision not to stay at Sugarhill Woodworks was influenced by misleading information regarding restroom and shower facilities. The listing indicated that showers were available, but upon contacting the host, we were informed that it was only a hose or the option to use the shower inside his home. Similarly, the listing stated toilets were accessible, but the reality was limited to either going outside on the host's property (not even a pit toilet, just squat and go) or the toilet inside his home.
This discrepancy was particularly disappointing as HipCamp's policy stipulates guests must have unrestricted access to toilets. The host was not home when we arrived which was an immediate violation of the unrestricted access policy. The lack of accurate information significantly impacted our plans and comfort, leading us to cancel our reservation. While the location itself appeared charming with its natural surroundings, the misleading description of amenities undermined our expectations and practical needs.
We hope this feedback encourages the host to update their listing to provide accurate details about restroom and shower options. Clear and truthful information is crucial for guests to make informed decisions and have a positive experience. Improving transparency will benefit both the host and future visitors seeking a reliable camping experience.

This has been the most fun site we have camped at! Kevin is an amazing host that has tons of fun. He took us on mountain biking rides on trails be made himself. I would recommend this site and stay to anyone at anytime.

Kevin was very friendly, laid back, and helpful. He loves visitors and enjoys assisting them when needed. It was nice to meet him, his girlfriend, and his daughter Lady Bug. His property sits among tall pines. Elk roamed past us as we were enjoying the sunset. We would certainly stay with Kevin and co. again...

We loved Kevin’s place! We went 2 adults and 3 children and the kids had a blast. Kevin let them jump on the trampoline and ride the bikes and there was even a tree swing for them. He took us on a mountain bike ride and pointed out different animal tracks etc and we did a little Sasquatch hunting. The area was beautiful and we will be going back again sometime.
There was an outdoor table provided as well as some chairs but be aware that you’re not able to use your camper AC due to electrical limitations. It wasn’t a huge bother but we did not expect to not be able to use it.

This is by far the best place i have ever camped/stayed at. We wernt sure where to stay on our visit to White Sands National park and we ended up staying here because it was a lot cooler temperture. At first we were a little skeptical because we were camping outside someones house, but after meeting with Kevin and his wife we no longer had any worry. They invited us into their home and we exchanged amazing conversation, learned about their culture, found out where to visit in the area, and at the end of it became great friends! The next morning we even went out on their mountain biking trails with Kevin and had a awesome time. I highly reccomend staying here whether its a solo, a small group, or even a family. These people are so welcoming and i know we created memories that will last forever. Thank you Kevin!

Kevin has set up a lovely area for camping on his land and showed me his mountain biking trails he created. He's also an artist and builder and I loved seeing the wood products that he has made. We had some lovely chats and he is a super nice and kind person. I'm happy to have stayed here (was on my way to White Sands) and to have met Kevin. I would definitely visit Kevin's place again! Thank you for the hospitality, Kevin!

Beautiful property, with Elk actually visible in the morning dozens of feet from our site. Hiking trails were good and fun for my small children. I’m not sure how long they go for, but Kevin also uses them for mountain biking. Very friendly host. Our second night was very windy. No noise from other campers. I think there were only one or two others.

5 elk came to visit (ie graze). Kevin waited up for us VERY late arrivals to make sure we got settled. Lovely views and delicious mountain air! But the most wonderful thing about our stay was Kevin himself. His warm welcome, heartfelt discussions and inviting and accepting nature, found us ending our visit as friends. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you are looking to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Kevin is my favorite Hipcamp host I’ve had so far. Site was easy to get to, property was beautiful, and Kevin welcomed us into his home and was fun to talk with. Even offered us hot coffee in the morning, as well as taking our group on a hike on his beautiful trail. Overall would definitely recommend if you’re passing through Ruidoso 😁👍

We had a wonderful time at Kevin’s place. I hated that we could only be there for one night as it was such a cool experience. He is wonderful and gives such beautiful insights about living on the reservation. We hope to go back!

Kevin is a great host. His spot is scenic with trees all around. Too muddy right now to walk his trail but saw elk on the way to his place and he says elk often visit his yard. He shares generously about life on the rez.

Kevin is truly one of the most genuinely kind people we have (EVER) come across in our decades of travel. His property is beautiful and he was upgrading his amenities (we will stop back on our next tour just to see the cool yurt in a tree he was building) If you are interested in the stars there was zero light pollution and it was an absolute spectacular show and the sites are surrounded by trails, wildlife etc. Cannot recommend this spot enough - five minutes with Kevin and you will think you are at home.

Very nice private spot with just the nicest person as a host. Very accommodating for our 3 night stay with our camper trailer by giving a 20amp hookup for us to have electric heat on cold nights. Our big Labrador Retriever was dwarfed by his German Sheppards and they had the best time playing and exploring.

Awesome experience. Kevin was so welcoming and kind. There were elk wandering around the reservation which was a fun bonus— plus two sweet German shepherds! There’s a fire pit if you want to build a fire, and we were offered hot coffee in the house in the morning. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Kevin's place is in the beautiful mountains in Mescalero. We took our 37 ft. camper and it was perfect. Kevin was very helpful and kind. We were able to have camp fires. It was so peaceful and quiet. Inn of the Mtn. Gods is about 20 minutes away, downtown Ruidoso is also about 20 minutes away. There's lots of hiking trails near by. We would stay there again.

What you need to know when staying at Kevin’s is that you will be in some beautiful country with a host who makes you feel like family. We loved this sacred spot where elk greet you in the morning and puppies snuggle you around the campfire at night. We wished we could’ve stayed longer. It’s a sweet and peaceful place to stay in the well groomed flat space of the yard. Kevin is a wonderful host and is at the ready to help w whatever you need.

One of the best hosts in New Mexico ! You Couldn’t find a better guy to support than Kevin who teaches Apache at the local school on the reservation as well as milling local trees for housing materials for the people here. Was here for cleanup week on the reservation which Kevin started and got to give back as well ! Will definitely be back to help out and hang out again. Got to listen to the elk on the property as well ass the dozens of humming birds and the hiking trails on the property really let you see the land around. Walking distance to everything in town.

Kevin and Shaun were amazing hosts and some of the most hospitable folks I have met while traveling. They welcomed me with open arms, invited me into their home for breakfast, and took me to an awesome Apache Ceremony. I had a blast talking with Kevin and his family about their life, dreams for the property and history of their ancestors. They have a trail from the property to the cemetery which was cool to walk through. Kevin is a super passionate person who loves interacting with people, does some really cool woodworking, and really takes the time to get to know you. I loved spending time with them and will definitely be back to see them. Thank you Kevin and Shaun for everything :) I highly recommend this place!
