Private and protected forest woodlands, trails, wildlife, ponds, wildflowers, old growth timber and views. Unspoiled nature at its best! We are located in southern Oregon near Crater Lake NP, just off of hwy 62, part of the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, more commonly known as the "highway of waterfalls" and near the little town of Prospect on what is known as the beautiful side of Crater Lake NP. Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close. Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods. Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall. Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake. Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you. The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary. The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge. Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. You may also spot the prolific wild hazelnuts. As Forest Stewards, we are committed to maintaining a well balanced and diverse forest ecosystem.

Deer Ridge is a large tent camp space nestled in mixed trees, perfect for groups traveling together if you book this site and add an "extra" or enjoy it as a solo. You'll find a picnic table and nearby porta john, but no other amenities, so be sure to come prepared.  This is a protected wilderness area. “Pac-in, pack-out.”  Campers should be prepared to pack out all trash and leave the area as pristine as they found it. Be mindful that camp sites have uneven terrain so please watch your step. (You'll park just outside of the camp area in the designated parking. If you are car camping, you'll need to book either the turtle pond or meadow mini.) Enjoy the tranquility of the Cascade Mountains in this Dry tent woodlands setting amidst trees and trails. (This spacious open area can accommodate 3 or more tents with plenty of extra room so if you are traveling with another party, you can select an "extra" so that you can share the camp site) The camping area is surrounded by an incredible forest of Doug Fir, Pacific Madrone, Cedar, Oak, Ponderosa, Sugar and Jeffrey Pine species, and surrounded by beautiful scenery in all directions! You will be camping on our 100 acre ranch but our ranch activity is situated on a different part of the acreage and you won't see or hear us in this serene setting. Easy travel time to Crater Lake National Park and the scenic Rogue-Umpqua area of the Cascades. Only 24 miles from the NP west/south entrance (on the Prospect desirable side of the NP) and most likely the closest private spot. 2 miles outside of the little town of Prospect (Country Bar, Cafe, Pizza Parlor, Market and Gas), 2 miles to the Rogue River (fishing and rafting), 2 miles to 3 waterfalls, 6 miles to Lost Creek Lake (boating and recreation), plus an abundance of hiking trails in nearby local area. After viewing the amazing star-filled night skies, fall into a deep relaxed sleep and wake up to birds singing, enjoy your coffee and a nature walk.  It’s DRY, no power hookups. There’s a mix of sun and shade depending on the exact spot (within the designated area) you choose and the time of day. At approximately 2600 ft elevation, a fresh gentle breeze significantly cools the late afternoon and evening summer temperatures. Most cell service carriers do get reception at this location, however, there is no WIFI. Vehicles can park just beyond the camping circle in a designated area. Short distance nature trails in the adjacent woodlands can be enjoyed in the immediate area. There are only two other completely private designated camp spots (separated by acreage) on our property. Pet fee is $8.00 / pet. Select "extra" to book your pet. Enjoy the tranquility of the Cascades and nearby Crater Lake NP in this beautiful rural setting. Great for travelers who prefer a private place to park their home on wheels while traveling to Crater Lake and the scenic Rogue-Umpqua area of the Cascades. Only 26 miles from the Crater Lake NP south entrance on the desirable Prospect side of the NP and most likely the closest private RV spot. Two miles outside of the little town of Prospect (Pizza Parlor, Cafe, & Market), along the waterfalls Hwy, 2 miles to the Rogue River (fishing and rafting), 2 miles to 3 waterfalls, 6 miles to Lost Creek Lake (boating and recreation), plus an abundance of serious hiking trails in nearby local area. This serene and quiet spot consists of an open space nestled in beautiful mixed woodlands of mature Doug fir, Cedar, Oak, Pine and Madrone on our 100 acre ranch. (You won’t see our house or barn since this RV spot is on the other side of the property and away from the Ranch activity). It’s DRY, no power hookups. Your RV must be fully self-contained. “Pack in, pack out” is a must since this is a protected wilderness area. There’s a mix of sun and shade depending on the exact spot (within the designated area) you choose and the time of day. At approximately 2700 ft elevation, a fresh gentle breeze significantly cools the late afternoon and evening summer temperatures. Star-gazing is amazing. Most cell service carriers do get reception at this location, however, there is no WIFI. Be mindful that camp sites have uneven terrain so please watch your step. A large parking area can be a pull-through-and-around with a level gravel pad.  Depending on the size of your vehicle, a longer RV/trailer may prefer to make a Y turn. Nature trails in the adjacent woodlands can be enjoyed in the immediate area. Hike the "Trail Loop" which begins right at your site for a beautiful 45 minute hike. You will be alone in this no-frills spot although two other sites are nearby. Dreamy tiny A-frame cabin with expansive deck nestled in a mixed woods with a romantic view of 6-acre Turtle Pond. The cozy and small 120 sq. ft. cabin has two twin beds. Organic linens and blankets are provided. View the Canada geese, ducks and cranes. Star gaze at night over the pond on the beautiful cantilever deck or enjoy early morning yoga to start your day. The side of the Cabin facing the pond has a clear awning and provides a view of nature and the sense of sleeping under the stars. Drifting off to sleep you can catch a glimpse into the starry heavens. The A-frame is a one-minute walk to the Port-a-Potty. Nature trails begin right at the Cabin steps. Perfect for a solo, a couple, a fam with baby or young child. This location is tranquil and surrounded by nature at it's most magical. Be mindful that camp sites have uneven terrain so please watch your step. This is a Glamping style A-frame with 2 twin beds, linens, blankets, water, lanterns, no heat or electricity. The Porta Potty is a one minute walk. Crater Lake NP is 24 miles close, 3 beautiful waterfalls are within 2 miles of the cabin, and the little nearby town of Prospect has a Cafe, a Pizza Parlor, a Country Bar, and a gas station/store.

It’s a really beautiful spot. We didn’t get to spend much time, pretty much just sleeping but it was gorgeous and peaceful. Cleanest port-a-potty I’ve ever experienced. DO play attention to the directions provided and not GPS!

This place is great! We loved the cabin. It was just warm enough to go without the sleeping bags in mid October. Clean and cozy bedding. Geese and ducks came and went the whole time of our stay which was really fun. The other sites also look so fun and a great place for an RV or RTT. Would definitely come back!

Super cool little cabin, I went in the fall and had the entire grounds to myself. They packed extra sleeping bags in the cabin in case it got cold over night, and had clear directions to get there.

This is an absolute gem of a campground! I’ve stayed at about 30 Hipcamp and this is in the top 3! There is so much beautiful land and not a sound other than nature. The forest was so healthy and a dream to just wander. We stayed at Turtle Pond and cooked our dinner down by the pond and had a nice visit with our neighbors at the communal campfire. Took my coffee and went a lovely 45 min walk without leaving the property, something that is rare for a Hipcamp. Will definitely share this with friends and also be back

This spot is so nice. We really enjoyed staying here. It was very secluded and private. Taking a walk around the pond in the morning was so beautiful. The porta-potty was clean and well kept. Thank you for providing such a great spot to camp.

I loved tent camping on Daniel’s property! The Deer Ridge camp site was perfect; nice clearing, perfect over head view of the starry sky. Getting there was clear and pretty simple. We stayed here to visit crater lake and it was enough out of the hustle and bustle but close enough to get to crater. The site is super private and we probably wouldn’t have seen anyone if we didn’t request fire wood. The only thing I recommend, which could definitely be on my part of not understanding “pack in and pack out”, is bring drinking water. There is no drinking water at this spot. Regardless, highly recommend. Daniel was great at communicating and meeting our needs above and beyond. Thanks!

We were lucky to have the grounds to ourselves and it was perfect. No shower and the bathroom is a port a potty, but the cleanest potty I've ever used. They have a pond with ducks, it's super quiet and the stars are soooo bright and beautiful at night. We'll for sure being going back!

This property is lovely! The ponds are vibrant green and towering trees throughout. Sites well defined and comfortable. We stayed at the Turtle Pond site for one night in our campervan. Hosts were helpful and responsive. Of you have a chance, book the tiny cabin! It's cute and has a deck right on the pond! Thanks for a great stay😊

Daniel's property was gorgeous! Pictures do not do it justice. We stayed for 1 night and I wish it was longer. The site felt private, had all the basics, and was quite peaceful overlooking the pond. Daniel was also responsive & provided clear directions/signage to easily find our way. Hope to be back!

We loved staying in this cute A frame! Campsite was spacious and loved having the BBQ to use. The pond is so peaceful and at night we loved listening to all the pond animals going about their night. A little buggy since you’re near the water but there was bug spray provided! Directions for getting to the property were very clear and easy to follow. From the campsite to Crate Lake Rim Village was about an hour; so not too bad considering you’re outside of the park. It was a great weekend getaway! Would definitely recommend Daniel’s property and would stay again!

We stayed in the A-frame cabin. Very beautiful, secluded spot next to a pond. The cabin itself is very basic, but comfortable. Only downside is that we booked for 3 people (me, my wife and our teenage son), but there are only 2 single beds. We made do with our own sleeping mat & sleeping bag, but the accomodation is really only suited for 2 people.

Great campsite with lots of room for our 3 tents and hammock. Great views of the stars at night. Porto-potty was clean and had a hand washing station. Quiet and peaceful. Easy drive to crater lake and lots of other beautiful nature sites all around! Would love to come back.

The adorable little cabin is absolutely wonderful! Cute, comfortable, plenty of shade, and lots of thoughtful touches. I booked this place for friends visiting from Australia - their first "glamping" experience - and they were smitten. We camped in the spot next door. Fantastic stay!

Remote. Good size space. Parking is very near site so you don’t have to haul your gear far. Rarely saw anyone else. Verizon cell was not great the first day but somehow was better the second. We enjoyed exploring some of the trails on the property. Porta potty was convenient.

Communication and directions were great. The site is right next to a ranch road, however felt very secluded and private as the road is only used by other campsites. The property is beautiful and great to explore. You can really put on some hiking miles just onsite - there's a big lily pond, a tree nursery, and other things to see with well marked roads/trails.

The A frame cabin was beautifully designed, stylish, super clean, with wonderful bedding and a a lovely view of the pond. So peaceful and quiet. The deck is large enough to hang out on and spread out two yoga mats. Loved this peaceful, private retreat. Perfect. Will definitely return!

We enjoyed tent camping on Daniel’s land! The directions were great even thought the site is very off the beaten path. If you are hanging out at the site, you might want to bring shade. We were jealous looking at the A-frame and shady nearby. It was nice to have a toilet and and little trail next to the site to enjoy a walk. The chairs and picnic table present were also a nice touch. Thank you, Daniel and family for providing a nice site close to Crater Lake (since they cancelled our camping)!
