This Outpost and campground is located on 300 acres of private property surrounded by park and public land. It has been here for over 30 years in some form or another. We are Caleb & Amber who enjoyed managing this little oasis in the middle of the desert from March to June of 2017 when we decided to purchase the business & make it our own. This is a dry, rugged campground with a bathhouse that provides coin operated showers and flush toilets. In addition there is little old rustic camp store placed in the middle of nowhere where we provide fuel, snacks, firewood, ice, showers, cold drinks & more.
If you are looking for a more private site with lots of space and shade, book our Small Group at the Rocks. For a warmer stay during the cooler months book one of our Glamping Tents listed. We have the larger, and spacious tent in the grove of the Juniper Trees (which is also amazing in the warmer season) and rent a heater from us inside the general/camp store.
BE SURE TO GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO CHECK IN NO LATER THAN 5PM. THANK YOU!! DON'T FORGET TO TAKE A SCREEN SHOT OF THE DIRECTIONS HERE, YOU WILL LOSE SERVICE ON YOUR WAY.

Small Group Site at the Rocks
95% (30)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 12 · Vehicles under 35 ft
This charming group site is nested up against the red sandstone rock wall that encompasses our entire campground. If privacy is what you desire then this is the best site to book. If you have friends or family (12 guests maximum total) joining you then this site assures you will be all together with out having to book multiple sites. We don't have many trees out here in the desert but this site has a small grove of the deserts' aromatic juniper trees providing plenty of shade if you are here in the warmer months and it offers a little protection from the winds during the change of seasons. ABOUT OUR CAMPGROUND and LOCATION: The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, (not anywhere near the Island in the Sky) visitors center is only 1.5 miles away. Hikes into the Needles are less than a 10 minute drive. This section of the park is a hikers paradise, what we call the "quiet side", underrated, inherently and beautifully primitive. A place to be treasured.
We are approximately 1.5 hours from Arches and approximately 2 hours from Island in the Sky.
There is a bathhouse with warm showers and flush toilets.
ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 5PM to keep your reservation.
SITE SPECIFICS: This small group site is for those who want a gathering of family members, friends or small events. This site will fit 6 tents or 3 rv vehicles, or any combination of such with 10 guests total, This a quiet escape for those who want to experience the serenity of the outdoors yet with the comfort of a few amenities nearby. This is a beautiful space with several Juniper trees providing an adequate amount of shade along the base of the red rock formation.
WHAT TO EXPECT: There are several hiking trails in the area as well as bicycling & 4 wheel drive trails on BLM (public land). This IS the Wild, Rustic, Dirty Desert, not for Everyone. This is Camping and keep in mind this is a rugged camping experience not for the faint at heart. The desert is Hot in the summer and cold in the winter, the weather is Unpredictable and you May experience our Wild storms...Monsoon season runs from July-August which is amazing if you are into photography. Be sure to bring proper gear for the rain (if we get any). You may hear coyotes, see spiders, experience the annoying desert gnats at certain times of the day during the hotter summer season. You will want to bring bug spray, but if you forgot we do sell it in our camp store. If you stay with us you will get the experience of desert camping, wild, raw and rugged. It is an amazing experience to be had, with beautiful views and the feeling of freedom that is hard to find in more civilized and populated locations. The rocks nearby are kid friendly, great for climbing and taking amazing photos of our fantastic views and gorgeous sunsets.
BATHHOUSE: There is a Bathhouse with Showers and Flush Toilets. Showers are with a Token and must be purchased during store hours. The bathhouse is shared with other campers and gets dirty. We are surrounded by red dirt. Toilets get clogged, this happens in public bathrooms. It is cleaned everyday. The bathhouse is operational while under construction.

We had such a quiet, peaceful night camping here. We loved climbing all over the rocks finding petroglyphs and catching a beautiful sunset from an elevated view. When leaving you’re a stone’s throw from Needles and can beat the heat and crowds for an early hike! Well worth the stay, regardless of a fire restriction. We’d do it again!
If you want to have a true Utah dessert experience, this is the right spot for you. The night is quiet and clean and the silence overwhelmingly pleasent. Amber and Caleb were super nice and always eager to help. The only think we regret is not spending more time there and try Caleb's speciality: spanish pork cuisine ;). Definitely will repeat if coming back to the state!
Cannot say enough good about Amber and the Needles Outpost. From her first words, "Welcome to Hipcamp!", to our sweet, shady campsite among the trees near the cliffs, to the night sky, it was fabulous. Amber creates a peaceful, calm atmosphere where everyone can enjoy the beauty of this special place. Even campers' dogs were quiet and calm! We met campers from around the world, were super close to Needles (views, hikes) and Amber had suggestions for spots and hikes to check out. I highly recommend!
Spectacular location! Awesome camping sights. Nestled into the red rocks! A little store with wonderful snacks and some necessities and all right next to fantastic hiking at canyonlands needles!
I can’t recommend this spot enough. It’s crazy close to Needles District, and the hosts are wonderful. For the price, you’re not going to find anything nearly as nice for camping. Showers are a treat, even if water restrictions make them short.
Beautiful spot, good sized sites. Sundries available on site, and this is remote so that's especially important! Can't beat the location for visiting the Needles District of Canyonlands!! Great experience!
Awesome little campground right at the entrance to Canyonlands.. Enjoyed watching the sunset from the rock formations just behind our site. Saw some awesome petroglyphs hidden up in the rocks. Side note: Hey dipshits .. don’t vandalize the rock art 🤨. The hosts run a tight ship and the campground is clean and well managed. Be respectful of the limited water and appreciate the quiet beauty of your surroundings. If you are looking for an even more remote but primitive spot, there are many dispersed options in the vicinity if you have the appropriate vehicle to get you there. Sometimes after a long drive though it’s nice to have a spot that you don’t need to search for with all the amenities. (They have ice cream in the store) We enjoyed the showers and the peaceful atmosphere of the camp and had a great opportunity for some incredible stargazing as our stay coincided with the new moon and perfect visibility at night. Would recommend for anyone who is looking for a peaceful night camping in an incredible location.
I recently stayed at Needles Outpost Campground and had a fantastic experience overall. The grounds were clean, well-kept, and clearly maintained with care. Our campsite was peaceful and quiet, surrounded by stunning natural beauty—honestly one of the most scenic places I’ve ever camped. The restrooms were in good shape and fairly well maintained throughout our stay, which was much appreciated.
The only downside was the limited number of trash cans. When the campground is full, it can be a bit inconvenient not having enough waste disposal options. That said, it didn’t take away much from the experience. I’d absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy the serenity and landscape of this incredible area.
Would not recommend Needles Outpost. If you have even a minor issue, things go south quickly. Made reservation in advance, but needed to change dates shortly before arrival. Tried via HC to modify, not cancel. No luck. Msg. host and 1st response indicated they'd paid no attention to question. Msg. again and host suggested I cancel 1st reservation and make a 2nd (non-cancellable) reservation for new dates and they'd refund the 1st. HC site would not allow and I msg. back, explaining this and to ask if I could drive up and we handle things in person at their office. Host responded that HC's customer service "had gone downhill" and "it's also hard on hosts," but no response to my actual request. At this point, as a solo female, I needed to make different plans. I moved on and two days later get phone messages and texts from the owner. She "felt awful" and "totally missed the text" (HC message)" and did offer a credit, but by this point I was out of the area and requested a refund. We've gone back and forth. I'm now being called entitled for requesting help and accountability. She's blamed everyone, HC, communication access, etc. Anything to avoid taking responsibility as the owner/host. There is also no immediate customer service via HC. It's email chat and you will get a request # and a promise of contact in 48 hours. I waited 5 days and had to recontact them. Did receive a 20% credit of trip cost for future visit with HC, but I'll never use HC again given this experience.
Solid alternative to the Canyonlands camping if you want to be close to the Needles. The sites themselves were somewhat close together but we were lucky to have access to some awesome rocks to explore and get great views. Don’t forget your shower flip flops like I did!
Amazing location and unparalleled views. Some really nice sites and some less great. Lovely friendly hosts and well stocked store, with gas, ice, food available. No potable water available though. The mens bathroom was really pretty disgusting (and I'm someone that is accustomed to basic vault toilets and boy scout style outhouses). I'm sure it's really hard to run the place in such a truly remote location but the state of the bathroom was awful enough I didn't want my kids using it unsupervised. The women's was apparently somewhat better. It's a shame because it's an amazing place otherwise. If the national park sites are full and this is your only option, or if you have a van with your own facilities, this is a workable option.
We enjoyed camping at this site. The views were fabulous and we loved hiking up the rocks above the campground. It provides excellent access to the park.
Needles Outpost is literally surrounded by Canyonlands NP and Bears Ears National Monument. This off grid campground, run by the effervescent Amber and ultra handy Caleb, offers numerous sites for all types of campers. We stayed for 3 nights and were impressed by how respectful everyone was. The little store offers a variety of products including ice cream bars, a treat in the desert. Distant views across the desert, expansive stars at night, spectacular sunsets, great location for exploring the Needles section and Bears Ears make this a terrific place to stay.
Needles Outpost was truly a wonderful spot. Nestled against a redrock formation among the junipers, it has private as well as sites with stunning views available. The store has a chest freezer full of frozen delectables in addition to the regular necessities for camp and pantry.
Amber is a delightful host and made us feel welcome.
The bathhouse has 2 stalls and 2 showers with 1 sink. It was very functional but in need of some upgrading.
We enjoyed the close proximity to the Needles District of Canyonlands. The hiking there is great.
Beautiful setting with a variety of campsites. It was handy having the store upon checkin. The bath house was much appreciated too. One of our favorite camps on our roadtrip! You have to checkin by 5pm but it's for the best so you have time to settle in and enjoy even if just staying one night.
My family loved camping at Needles Outpost. We stayed here for nearly a week. This is a very special place nestled next to red rocks with a view of Canyonlands NP - Needles District. The campground is generally very quiet and seems to attract considerate campers looking for a peaceful retreat.
Best of all, the Needles Outpost has flush toilets, and showers! A real treat to be able to rinse off after a day of hiking. They also have a cute little store with basic supplies, ice, drinks, ice cream, fuel, gifts, etc.
This place creates a nice feeling of a dispersed campsite but with several added benefits. We will be coming back!
Thank you Amber and Caleb for your warm hospitality!
I absolutely loved this campsite. Perfect location, stunning views, quiet, great amenities (such as bathroom and campstore), and Amber was so kind and helpful. The only thing that was a little tough was planning the trip to make sure we arrived before 5pm, but Amber was very upfront about that so we made sure to schedule accordingly. Would absolutely come back again!
We loved returning to Needles Outpost again and enjoyed seeing the hosts again. The location is amazing with plenty of rock climbing and exploration available on site. We cannot wait to return again.
Wonderful! We had a great stay. Very beautiful, peaceful place. I liked the little general store for snacks & camping supplies. Loved having a shower too. It's clear Amber works very hard to run this campground. One thing to note is that not all the campsites necessarily have a level place to pitch a tent. It wasn't that big of a deal, we made it work. Just plan accordingly.
