My friends and I had a great time staying the night at art city, we had issues with our propane portable stove so we were able to use the outdoor kitchen.It had everything you could need. The art and sculptures are super cool, theres art everywhere even the bathrooms. Our camp spot was great for us and we plan on returning sometime and recommending to friends also.

2 nights at Cienega Arroyo Ranch

Good location and loved that it's off-leash pet friendly. It's convenient to Riudoso and, since there's a locked gate, very safe to leave your campsite unattended. Just be aware that the campsites are close to the gate and are also right next to each other. We were happy there was no one at the other site during our stay.

This site was great. I loved the open kitchen and shower format. Cheers to Matty for building this wonderfuly ambitious project. Art through physical interaction with the piece has always been a favorite of mine and this place was on point. My family loved it.

My husband and I enjoyed camping on Matty’s land. We appreciated the communal atmosphere and all of the incredible works of art. It was so much cooler in person. It’s definitely a place we would recommend to friends and come back to.

Weekend Trip to Dragonfly Mountain Ranch

We loved dons property! We were happily surprised to see plenty of basic equipment provided for us. The sunshade was a lifesaver. We felt very safe and comfortable. Definitely better than a typical campground with plenty of privacy. Don was a super host too. He made sure to restock us with water and a truckload of firewood. Don was full of information about the property and surrounding area and recommended the nearby John Dunn recreation area which was beautiful and super fun. If you don’t check it out, you’re making a mistake! Such a wonderful experience all the way around for our first visit with Hipcamp. We’re already discussing our next visit here!

Weekend Trip to Agua de Vida

This was a great place to stay close to Santa Fe and Albuquerque. The land was gorgeous, felt fairly private, lovely views, and we especially had fun boating on the pond and meeting the camp dogs. As other reviewers have said the freeway is a bit loud but earplugs worked and we did appreciate the easy access.

Exceptional place to camp. My boys and I thoroughly enjoyed our time on the property. There was other campers, but you are so far apart it is like you are completely alone. Great time!

6 nights at Rancho Algo Mas

The land was beautiful and the hosts were great. All the animals were so cute! It was such a nice big site with a composting toilet. They even left firewood for me. Would highly recommend to anyone.

2 nights at Enchanted Circle Campground (E<<)

This was truly the best campground we have ever stayed at. The sites were private and very well spaced out. Each site has a massive fire ring, lots of different log seats, a grill (with accessories), and a porta john. (Our site had a grill grate that you cook over a fire with, but the other have actual grills). The porta john was clean…like, CLEAN clean! The tank had just been emptied and the seats had recently been wiped down. We bought the sausage and fresh eggs and both were delicious. Our site had a lot of trees, log seats, and other trip hazards, so they have solar lights on every single obstacle that you might run into in the dark. The lights are very dim so as not to mess with your night vision, but bright enough to see as you’re walking through your camp at night. Everything was very well thought out and organized . I cannot wait to come back.

Weekend Trip to Art City Tucumcari

This is a great place! The art structures are certainly worth seeing, and they are especially fun as they are made to be interactive. The kids in our group thought it was so fun to climb on everything! Many of them light up at night, which was also a cool and unique feature. The bathroom facilities are clean, camp is super quiet/respectful, and the Art City staff were super friendly! The only negative I can think of was that the campus seemed a bit overgrown and unkept in terms of weeds. However, we visited during early June rains, so this could have been the reason trails were not kept up.

A beautiful and peaceful place to rest. Sunny Mellow's atmosphere is perfect and you can tell that the owners are truly passionate about what they've created. My daughter loved the swing!

We were on a cross country trip and stayed here for a night. The spa was just what our bodies needed after the long drive. The outdoor kitchen was perfect. tip for nature lovers: Shower in the stall that was built around the tree.

Fun place to camp and enjoy the art. The showers are great. I enjoyed the hot tub in the evening but when I went in the morning it was only warm ish and I couldn’t figure out how to work the sauna. The communal kitchen was very nice. The sites are a little rough and when we were there in early June it was very muddy. The bathroom situation is a little confusing. All in all I enjoyed my stay but the price seemed a little high.

Art City was a trip! Beautiful land, interesting art, and a VERY nice shower/hot tub/sauna setup. Genuinely one of the nicest showers I’ve ever had at a campsite. Host was lovely, very friendly and welcoming, and answered all my questions. I will say watch out for snakes and tarantulas while walking around the land though! Super cool to see, but just be warned!

1 night at Dragonfly Mountain Ranch

First and foremost, what stood out to me the most was how helpful, responsive, and accommodating Don was as a host! He always responded super promptly to any questions I had, provided tons of restaurant and trail recommendations, and even allowed us to move our reservation one day to try to avoid bad weather. He made everything super easy for us! As for the property itself, it was AWESOME! It is located basically at the foot of the mountains, with beautiful views, especially at sunrise and sunset. The flat, grassy area was perfect to pitch a tent and sleep comfortably. Our host made sure we had plenty of firewood as well. There's also a lot of brushy wood piled along the property that is great for kindling. The porta potty was super clean, with no smell at all. Overall, 10/10 experience at this site, and Don was an awesome host!

Sitting near the top of Oso Ridge at approximately 7700', we have one of the most inspiring views in the area. Our remote and quiet 20 acres of heavily forested mountainside includes deep gorges and rocky terrain, while Ponderosa Pine canopies offer shade from the sometimes intense NM sun. Wildlife is plentiful, though sometimes elusive. Deer, Elk, Fox, Bobcat, Lynx, Wild Turkey, Roadrunners and Coyotes are all regularly seen on the land. El Morro Monument, easily seen from our Firecircle on the opposite end of the Valley, is a world class travel destination. The water tank at the base of it's rock was a relied upon water source during early expeditions. Conquistador Coronado, Lt. Beale and other famed explorers stopped here before traveling further west. Flying Horse Retreat is across El Morro Valley, near the top of Oso Ridge in the Zuni Mountains, and has a panoramic view of the surrounding mesas. You may want to get a closer view of Los Gigantes - amazing sand sculptures carved by the wind and sacred to ancient tribes. We're just a few miles from the Continental Divide and Pie Town is a couple of hours further south. Two art galleries, a Feed Store, a Holistic Food Store, and a gift/coffee shop are right across the highway and next door to the Cafe. Come visit our eclectic community of actors, healers, artisans, writers, organic farmers, and unique thinkers. Mujeres Valley Campground

This is a drycamping venue that has gravel roads leading up to the venue. Fresh well water can be provided for small groups without a fee but guests will need to provide their own containers to use during their stay. The campground has a fairgrounds across the road that is not part of registration access through this site. Please contact us directly for booking options for the fairgrounds and please make sure to only access the property pinned in the location provided to you through this site. This property was obtained around 60+ years ago via the Homestead Act by a family who we have become very close friends with. Over the last 60 years it's only been used sparingly as grazing land for cattle. Since we've obtained the land we've been focused on learning it's history from those who have been here the longest while also being proud BIPOC owners of land in this area. We've also connected with the original people's of this land who were here during the time the land was colonized. We've found ceremonial and everyday pottery, crystals, and underground caves throughout the surrounding properties which we own. Over the last 2 years we've learned about the Redwoods that have been wiped out of the area and that the mountain is eroding quickly. It has become our mission to plant indigenous plants and trees that are extinct from the area, reviving the plant like, reviving the mountain and doing what we can to encourage the water table to rise! Our plans for the 12 acres the campground occupies is to add an outdoor shower that can be used all year, installing solar powered water heaters & bathrooms as well as establishing a community meeting space and a greenhouse where we can host gardening classes and provide fresh fruits and veggies in this food desert! This land is sacred and we intend to continue treating it as such!

The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country. We have 8 Sites to choose from. (No large RVs at 4, 7 or 8) Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Free potable water is available as well as a portable toilet. For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a cast iron grill. Every site (but 7) has a standing charcoal grill, with tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. We hang a hand washing jug at every site for your convenience, with potable water, but do not suggest this for drinking water source. The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. The springs converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch. We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 2 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion. We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others. I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible. We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can. And as always, Veterans, LEOs, and Fire Fighters are always free for one night up to 4 guests. You can explore Native American ruins that were inhabited by some 2,000 people between 700-1100 AD. The grounds are wonderful to walk with a little lake which draws elk, deer, hawks, blue herons, etc. Easy to access just 3 minutes off I-25. Rancho Algo Mas

This land was previously undeveloped when we bought it in 2011, having only been used as horse grazing land and chile production in the 1960s. It is characteristic of inherited irrigated properties in the area and is about 150 ft wide and half a mile long that extends from the traditional irrigation ditch (acequia) at the top of the property to the river drainage. In the 1940s the Chile Line Railroad ran through here on the way to Espanola. Learn more about this land: Nestled in the river valley halfway between Taos and Santa Fe, near the confluence of the Rio Chama and the Rio Grande, this off-grid property is just north of Ohkay Owingeh, where indigenous settlements have existed for many centuries due to rich soil and available ground and surface water. In the 1500s settlers from Mexico came to farm land for New Spain. These historical Spanish and Native influences and identities run deep in this area, as well as the more recent influences of hippie dropout culture in Taos, Ojo Caliente, and Dixon. We have lots of book recommendations if you want to learn more about the complexity of culture and identity in northern New Mexico. Our 5 acres property is a narrow agricultural strip that extends from the irrigation acequia (ditch) at the top of the property down through a dense bosque (forest), ending in a path to the placid river bend of the Rio Grande. The campsites lie midway, among the privacy of the cottonwood bosque and adjacent pond. It is a short walk to a riverside perch with stairs to the shallow water and kayak launch. Other activities on the property include visiting the goats, chickens, and our friendly dogs, playing on the scrap-built playground, swinging on the pond swing, wading in the river, fishing, and doing some beginner kayaking the pond. This property is at its best late Spring through mid Fall when all is green, the pond is full and river is cool. Winter camping is still doable but may include snow, frozen pond, and leafless trees, and sandhill cranes. The site has a nice firepit and we have lots of wood. Summertime means mosquitos so come prepared with some serious sprays or creams- and don't bother with citronella candles, they won't be effective here. You will have a lot of privacy in the bosque, and it is relatively quiet from urban noise. You will be in agricultural and farm country, so you will be amongst the sounds of roosters, sheep, goat, peacocks and horses doing their thing in the farm land all around you. There can be dogs barking so if any of this noise bothers you you will want to bring earplugs.
