1 night at Shelter at Castle Rock Farm

Absolutely one of the most gorgeous, private and serene locations we’ve ever stayed. Attention to detail was amazing. From the beautiful fire pits (with unlimited free firewood), the rain shelters, solar lighting, double hammock and furniture made from their own small saw mill (wood from fallen trees only) the campsites are immaculate. Ours was set at the edge of a pristine meadow surrounded by a healthy forest of doug fir, sugar pine, maple and more. It is a birders paradise, alive with the sounds of wild turkeys, tree swallows and pileated woodpeckers. Walking along a lovely creek, past a pond of native cutthroat trout and getting a tour of one of the healthiest vegetable gardens we’ve seen by Richard, the owner, was one of the many highlights of our stay. We really appreciated at how environmentally conscious the owner is with this property. There are lots of trails in the vicinity. We hiked the McKenzie River trail from Sahalie Falls to Blue Pool and back - stunningly beautiful! Castle Rock trailhead is only a 2 minute drive. Can’t wait for our next stay!

Weekend Trip to Royal Heart Hill

This was a beautiful and calm place to camp. The directions were super clear, and the amenities were great (the platform even had an outlet, the shower was warm, and there was a nice fire pit). Be aware of mosquitoes and ticks! Luckily, we brought bug spray, but we did get a tick bite. Overall, loved our stay.

Third time visiting in the last year. I always enjoy this place even in the rain. I brought my lab and we enjoyed the river and the quiet. I will certainly be visiting again.

Had a lovely and magic time with my son and pup Mishka! Heard owls hooing to one another at night, birds singing during the day, and water rushing all from our little cabin. We cooked a lot with everything provided (besides food), read from Short Stories of the World, played board games, and made art. Mishka got to run around free in the field and in the water. He looked so happy and cozy by the fire my son made. It was an amazing visit for connecting to one another and with nature. Thank you so much! We will be back some day 🌻

Weekend Trip to Shelter at Castle Rock Farm

My family loved our weekend getaway here! Richard provides you with just about everything you need. The property is beautiful, our 2yr old loved looking for rocks by the creek. It’s a perfect spot for stargazing as well. We enjoyed seeing all the wildlife, especially the turkeys and hummingbirds! Lots of good hiking nearby too. :)

Weekend Trip to Royal Heart Hill

Beautiful campsite, perfect for people who want a step up in convenience from backpacking in the woods. Everything is nicely organized, prepped and clean for arrival. Signs and instructions are easy to find (and follow). I stayed at the platform. Huge, safe firepit. Briefly met Carly at the beginning of the drive way. A bit out of the way. Nice views of the sunset. Enjoyed the walk around the property.

2 nights at Santiam Serenity

We really enjoyed our stay! We didn’t use the cabin because we had our trailer but it looked very nice. We loved having a large field available to run our dogs. The portion of river that is part of the site had one section with a deep enough pool the dogs could swim in. Private, pretty scenery and very peaceful. We will definitely return! Excellent communication with the host via the app.

Weekend Trip to Carsners Tree Farm (CTF)

This place is amazing. Check-in was easy, Mike helped us hook up electrical. You can walk the entire property, it’s all fenced in. The lower barn is open during day for all visitors. Coffee maker ( and coffee), hot plate, large toaster oven. A refrigerator. They have archery, basketball, etc available. Also flushing toilet and hot shower, dish sink, washer/dryer. Campfire was waiting for us when we got up in the morning. Also, a visit from the dogs! They have chickens! Plenty of wildlife, and very peaceful. Thanks for an amazing time.

Was so nice to be isolated away from Eugene in this quiet stay! Very rustic but super cozy. The bathhouse was amazing and had flushable toilets about 150 ft away from the dome if an outhouse isn’t really your thing.

Learn more about this land: One mile from I-5, you may pitch your tent or park your van near some fir trees at the edge of a small meadow bordering Elk Creek. Feel the restful flow of water bringing tranquility. Follow hiking trails along the creek, through groves of trees, or play in the singing creek. There is another hiking trail to another portion of the creek to the right of the road that passes by the barn. A sign on an oak tree indicates the edge of the large mowed meadow that will take you to another sign for the trail to the creek. When entering the property at the county road, you’ll see a big Century Farm sign on the left at the driveway entrance. Continue past a brown machine shed followed by two apple trees on your left. Just beyond the apple trees is a sign on a big fir tree that points to where the campsite parking is located. Shaped like an arrow it points to the mowed path to the creek and campsite which you may drive down to arrive at the campsite. Uphill from the campsite is a trail going through a small copse of trees that leads up to the red barn. On the left at the entrance to the barn is a bathroom complete with sink and shower. *Please read FULL site description and rules before booking so you know what to expect and what is expected of you!* 'Royal Heart Hill' is at the very end of a Dead-End road, which means no sound or light pollution from passing cars or nearby residences. Surrounded by BLM and Timber properties, while being 6 miles from downtown CG (7 miles from the I5) and 30 miles from downtown Eugene. All guests have access to the outdoor shower, which is connected to the Dome. Please use biodegradable soap in the shower! Potable water spigots are located by the carport and at the top of the steps leading down to our platform site. Each site has its own composting toilet, fire-pit, electrical outlet and hammock. Nearby access to: two lakes for swimming and fishing, waterfalls and cliff-jumping, hiking and biking trails, dining, wineries, breweries, shopping and more. I am happy to offer suggestions and share what I know- please ask! UPDATE: The timber acreage that borders our property- to the west and north of Overholser Road- was harvested winter 2024. The property consists of Oak savanna, mixed conifer woodland, camas meadow, undulating hills and a SMALL pond (home to many rough-skinned newts- no swimming or fishing). At our domestead we practice permaculture, native habitat restoration and regenerative forestry. Poison oak is present on the property! I have done my best to clear it from camping areas and trails. Tecnu is provided in the outdoor shower. There is a mile long loop that goes around the whole property, which we keep mowed and accessible. Hipcampers are encouraged to use the loop to explore the property. To access- walk south/downhill toward the pond signs and follow the mowed path through the meadow and back up toward the road, which will take you back to your campsite. I have included a screenshot of the loop as recorded by my Strava app, which is in the property photos. The property hosts a geodesic play-dome and slack-line (during the dry months) up by the green dome/outdoor shower. Guests may play on these at their own risk- the closest hospital is 7 miles away. *Please note- if you do not respect our camp rules your visit will be flagged, hipcamp will be notified and you will be asked to pay 25% of your booking fee for cleanup costs.*

Alsea Valley Farm

Our farm is nestled at the end of Honey Grove Valley in the lush coastal mountains. The creek meanders through our seven acre property. The north side contains a field, small orchard, greenhouses and barn. The south side is steep and wooded with healthy riparian. An extension to the Honey Grove trail leads out of the property accessing seven miles of hiking and mountain bike trails. Nearby activities include hiking and mountain biking in Mary's Peak and Alsea Falls recreational area. Fishing access to the Alsea River is located 1.5 miles from the property on Honey Grove Road. The guest cabin has two rooms and can sleep (4) guests comfortably and up to (6) guests. It contains (2) queen size beds, one pull out couch, and an optional futon mattress and a fold out single bed. One bed is in a loft accessed by a ship ladder. There is a small kitchen and attached bathhouse. The toilet is non-flush, composting. From the designated parking area there is a 200 foot walk along a gravel path to the cabin. Other features include a fire pit, sauna, and creek access. Internet is available in the cabin. There is a Level 2 vehicle charger available for guests. The property also contains a host residence. The area around the residence is for the hosts. The cabin and the property are very quaint and inviting but also very rustic. Do not be surprised to see a few spiders and other bugs, the occasional bunny, wild turkeys, Garter Snakes by the ponds and newts on the trails. Please maintain good situational awareness when enjoying the property as structures and grounds may have some inherent hazards. Barn is off limits. Greenhouse and gardens are fine to explore as long as doors and gates are closed and dogs are kept out. Please refrain from harvesting produce and/or eggs unless accompanied or given permission from hosts directly.

Welcome to the river! This beautiful 10 acre property is located on the scenic main Umpqua River. Enjoy excellent, year-round fishing, kayaking, and swimming right from your private and secluded campsite. Our property is located between 2 boat ramps which makes kayak, canoe, or raft floats a breeze. The property features beautiful, mature trees, fun bedrock to explore, and an amazing swimming hole (in the summertime when the river level is low enough). Sit at the river’s edge and enjoy the sounds of the water. Be sure to watch for soaring Eagles, jumping fish, and the occasional mink on the opposite river's edge! There are multiple wineries nearby and lots of hiking trails within a short drive. There is no cell service at the property - please plan ahead and check local burn ban policies before you go. The "owners area" camping spot is a large, graveled, gated area that has trees between the road and parking. There is a port-a-potty for use in the summer months. There is also a fire pit on the lower level overlooking the river, a hidden tree swing, and deck with picnic table. The "site 1" camping spot has a driveway that is hard-packed grass and is not gated. There is a small fire pit on the path by the river. There are areas under the trees both up top near the road and down near the path that are suitable for tents. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a fully manicured campground. There are bushes and grasses that grow year round. We do our best to keep things trimmed and accessible. Sometimes (especially in the spring) things grow more quickly than we can get to them. Please don't expect this to be a perfectly mowed, backyard-type site.

Camping near Eugene guide

Overview

Eugene is one of those charming Oregon towns that makes you want to stay forever. Craft breweries and theaters dot the downtown, and weekend farmers markets bring out the crowds. Surrounding it all is the breathtaking Willamette River Valley. In these rugged forests and hills, you can camp, hike, bike, and boat to your heart’s content.

Close to town, head for the Armitage Park near Coburg; it’s run by Lane County Parks and is open year-round. This 37-site RV park offers full hookups and picnic tables, as well as an off-leash area for your pets. You’ll also find a variety of campgrounds and premier RV resorts near town, many with free Wi-Fi.

An hour east of Eugene and Springfield, the Willamette National Forest provides 70 campgrounds. At Cougar Crossing, a boat launch allows easy water access. Head to Limberlost for shaded, secluded campsites. If you prefer glamping, cabins and yurts are also available.

When only true wilderness will do, load up your backpack and head out for a hike. The national forest allows dispersed camping, so you can pitch your tent in the backcountry, just stay 100 feet away from any water sources.

To the west of Eugene, the Siuslaw National Forest offers camping for tents, RVs, and backpackers. Hike through the misty mountains, or head all the way to the Oregon Coast for beach camping. The weather is mild and damp year-round, but you’ll find fewer crowds from late fall to early spring.
